I'm not getting my e-mail notices. How can I fix this?

In rare cases, you may find that you are not getting your email notices, even though you used to. If so, try the following:

  1. Log on to "My Account" and check that your email address (under Modify Personal Information) is correct.
  2. If your email address is correct in your account, MLN is sending you notices and something is blocking them. You may need to do something to your email account settings to make sure that all emails from "library.minlib.net" are always allowed through (sometimes known as "whitelisting") and are not being blocked by a spam filter. See MLN's FAQ page about this with examples of how to fix it with a Hotmail Mail account. There is also information about known problems with other providers, like Yahoo and Verizon.
  3. In rare cases, it may be necessary to contact your email account provider to ask if they are blocking all email from library.minlib.net. Tell them that MLN does not send SPAM, it only sends emails that its customers ask for, and ask them to unblock email from library.minlib.net. It can be very difficult to report a problem like this or even to find the right person to report it to.
  4. Last resorts:
    • Let the notices disappear into the ether and check "My Account" frequently.
    • Switch to a different email hosting service which gives you more control over spam blocking and especially "whitelisting".
    • Disable email notices and switch back to paper notices.
  5. Reminder notices: When you sign up for email notices, you will actually receive three different types of email notices: Pickup Notices, Overdue Notices, and Reminder Notices. Reminder Notices are only available to email patrons, and they are sent two days before the due date of an item, to remind you to return it or renew it (which can often be done online in My Account if no one else is waiting for the item). These notices have the Subject line: "Library Reminder - Items Due in 2 Days". If you do not want these reminder notices cluttering your Inbox, see MLN's suggestions on how to filter these messages using the subject line.
