Climate Change Action Brookline
Jun 1, 2009-Aug 12, 2009
Main Library Lobby Cases
Climate Change Action Brookline (CCAB) has established an LCD and Kill-a-Watt Loan Program with the three Brookline libraries, and the books and devices are being checked out. Two display cases at the main library promote CCAB's work. The displays highlight opportunities to save on energy costs and lower household carbon emissions by following 1) The Low Carbon Diet, a 30 Day Program to Lose 5,000 Pounds (of carbon) by David Gershon 2) signing up for NSTAR Green wind energy and 3) conducting a blowing door test to discover and seal air leaks throughout the home. CCAB and The Brookline Neighborhood Alliance have launched a Brookline Green Neighborhoods Challenge to reduce carbon footprints, and a number of neighborhood groups have already signed up. For information see our website at www.climatechangeactionbrookline.org.

Michelle Leier and Zehra Khan
Opening reception Thu 7/2 6:00 PM
Jul 3, 2009-Aug 12, 2009
Main Library
Michelle Leier and Zehra Khan are both currently finishing their Masters in Fine Art at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Leier paints from direct observation, and finds this act of intense looking to be a very satisfying way to experience her surroundings. The paintings in this exhibition were all done on site; locations include Cape Cod, southern Maine, Vermont, Wales, and northeastern Minnesota. The works use dramatic shapes and colors to express a celebratory feeling of the spaces.
Khan focuses on the immediacy of drawing in ink on paper, with all its spontaneity and surprises. Her drawings of animals accompanied with captions illustrate the human relationships we spontaneously make, redefine, and emotionally invest ourselves in.
