We want you for our Teen Manga and Anime Art Show!
During the month of January, the Brookline Public Library will be displaying teen-created artwork in the style of Japanese manga or anime in Hunneman Hall and in the Teen Room to highlight the fantastic art of our local teen artists.
Please hand in all artwork at the Reference or Information Desks at the Main Library for Robin Brenner.
The final selections for the Teen Manga and Anime Art Show will be selected by the members of the Teen Manga and Anime Club consulting with the Teen Librarian. The judges will also select a Judge’s Top Ten to feature the artists who deserve special recognition.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Anime and Manga Club
Who can submit art?
Any teen, i.e. any student in 6th to 8th grade, and who lives or goes to school in Brookline may submit their art for the art show.
How many pieces can I submit?
You may submit up to five pieces to be considered for display in the show. Every artist is guaranteed one piece in the show, with a possibility for more depending on the number of submissions and space.
Does the art have to be directly related to a manga or anime?
While we are looking for artists working in the style of manga or anime, the art does not have to relate specifically to any particular manga or anime. We want to include as many pieces as possible, so we will be fairly flexible about what may be in the style of manga or anime. The idea is to show off how these media have inspired creativitiy among local teens: if you think your work falls into that category, then submit it!
When do I have to bring in my submissions?
All submissions must be handed in to the Main Library by Friday December 21st. We must have submissions by then in order to judge everyone's work and in order to hang up the show in time for its debut on January 2nd.
Can I submit digital or online art?
Sure -- as long as you can print it out in a form we can display. Everyone creates in different ways, so art created online or on a computer is definitely ok, but we have to be able to display it in our gallery space. 3D art is also possible, given that we will also have a display case.
I don't create art in this style. Will there be another art show for me?
We hope this will be the first in a number of shows focusing on teen artwork. The Teen Room will soon have a designated gallery space for displaying local teen artwork, and we would like to have an annual event focused on local teen art. If you'd like to be involved in this, please let us know! Email Robin Brenner, the Teen Librarian, at to let her know you want to be part of an upcoming art show!
Why is this art show in the manga/anime style?
Japanese comics (or manga) and anime (or animation) have proven not only to be incredibly popular but very inspiring to all kinds of artists, from comics artists to fine artists. Both at the library Manga and Anime Club meetings and simply chatting with local teen patrons, the Teen Librarian realized many teens were creating artwork either based on manga or anime or original work created in that style. This seemed like a good place to start for a local teen art show, and when the space became available, the timing couldn't have been better!
