In Love with Romance

Batia Bloomenthal | August 31, 2016

I remember the first moment I fell in love…with romance novels. I was twelve years old and spending the weekend at a friend’s house. During a quiet “downtime” moment my friend handed me a well-worn paperback and laughingly said “read it, I think you’ll like it.”  Just like that…I was hooked. My younger self  needed everyone to have the happily ever after. These days my older self can appreciate the escapism for when life gets a little to “real.” Since that pivotal life-altering moment I have read countless amazingly and not so amazingly written romance novels, but for now, I have narrow down my favorites to the fingers on one hand.

Honest Illusions

#5 Honest Illusions by Nora Roberts.

Set in the sparkly world of high end magic and escape artist shows, the story’s adventurous plot twists are well written and the heated chemistry between the characters keeps readers coming back for more.

Shields Lady

#4 Shields Lady by Jayne Ann Krentz

This is one of Jayne Ann Krentz’s earliest forays into the Sci-Fi Romance genre and could be considered by some to be the precursor to Jayne Castle’s (the author’s other pseudonym) Ghost Hunter Series.

Gentle Rogue

#3 Gentle Rogue by Johanna Lindsey

This is the third novel on both this list, and in the Mallory-Anderson Family Saga series. As historical romance novels go this one specializes in a feisty and strong willed female protagonist and a  alpha male counterpart.

Nobodys Baby But Mine

#2 Nobody’s Baby But Mine by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

As a comedic sports themed romance novel with an underlying theme of “necessity is the mother of invention” readers will find plenty to laugh and cheer about.

Mister Perfect

#1 Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard

Fast paced and suspenseful this contemporary romance thriller grabs readers attention and never lets it go.
