Summer Reading

Will Harlan | June 10, 2019

Summer is here, and that means summer reading! This year, you can explore a universe of stories and take part in the Library’s Summer Reading Program. We have programs for adults, teens, tweens, and kids with scratch tickets, raffles, and of course prizes!

Here’s how it works: Each time you check out materials from the Library, you get an instant-win scratch ticket (max one per day). Scratch off the coating to see if you win a prize. (You must be present to play — friends or family members cannot pick up tickets for you.) Then use your ticket to enter our grand prize raffle. We’ll hold grand prize drawings for adults, teens, tweens, and kids at the end of the summer.

The Summer Reading Program runs at all Public Library of Brookline locations from Monday, June 17 through Friday, August 23. Use the tabs below to read about Summer Reading for adults, teens, tweens, and children.

Adults

The adult summer reading program is open to everyone ages 18 and older. Prizes include candy, pencils, digital movie vouchers, coupons for free 3D prints, and keychains made with the Library’s new laser cutter. For our grand prize raffle drawings, we’ll be giving out two $50 gift certificates to the Brookline Booksmith.

Looking for an extra challenge for your summer reading? Try the Library’s 2019 Reading Challenge, which runs through the rest of 2019.

Teens

The teen summer reading program is for teens entering grades 8-12. Prizes include candy, giant gummy bears, portable chargers, squishies, plushies, and coupons for 3D prints, as well as custom-order decals or iron-on designs. For our grand prize raffle drawings, we will be giving out four $25 gift cards and one $50 gift card.

Tweens

The tween summer reading program is for tweens entering grades 5-7. Prizes include new books, mini Funko Pops, cute animal squishies, and more. For our grand prize raffle drawing, we will be giving out two $25 gift cards.

Children

The children’s summer reading program is for 3-year-olds through kids entering grade 4. Prizes include bubbles, squishies, books, coupons for free 3D prints, and more. Grand prizes include reading baskets and a Kindle.

Looking for even more summer reading activities? Stop by the Children’s Room at Brookline Village or Coolidge Corner, or the main desk at Putterham, to sign up for Summer Learning. You’ll get a stamp sheet where you can earn more scratch tickets by participating in Library programs, reading with friends, and more. Use your stamp sheet to keep track of your summer reading. Then join us for an Ice Cream Party: there will be an ice cream party at the Coolidge Corner Library on Wednesday, August 14 at 3:30 PM and an ice cream party at the Putterham Library on Thursday, August 15 at 3:30 PM. You can read more about summer reading for children here.

Away from Brookline this summer? Never fear — you can keep up with summer reading via our online program, too!
