Black History Month Transcribathon
|

SATURDAY, February 22, 1:30-4:30 PM
|
Join us to explore Black history through historical documents. We’ll use the new online By the People program to explore and help preserve materials housed in the Library of Congress. Library staff will teach you how to transcribe or review these historical letters, speeches, manuscripts and other writings.
|
No experience necessary, just an interest in learning. The materials cover a wide range of topics, and there will be plenty of time to collaborate with fellow participants and share your discoveries.

The Past & Present of Black Boston

Join Mary McNeil, research assistant for Tufts University’s African American Trail Project, for a lively discussion about the rich history of Black Boston. Mary will introduce attendees to the work of the African American Trail Project and discuss a few sites of interest in the greater Boston area. Copies of the African American Trail Project’s map will also be made available to attendees.

Albino Mbie is a graduate of the Berklee College of Music and a multi-award winning musician, composer, and sound engineer born in Maputo, the art and culture-rich capital of Mozambique. Mbie’s music incorporates his experiences from Mozambique, the United States, and many other places around the world, combining rhythmic patterns and musical concepts to create a unique Afro-Pop and Moz-Jazz sound. Contemporary art doesn’t have to be scary! Join the ideaSPACE Team as we (st)ART together by learning about the work of artist Toyin Odutola. We’ll watch a video interview with the artist, create our own pieces based on her work, and view and discuss what others have made around the world! Workshop for up to 15 participants ages 10 to 110.
