Delayed Opening: Staff Development

WEDNESDAY, March 11

The Brookline Village and Coolidge Corner Libraries will open at noon on Wednesday, March 11, due to staff development. The Putterham Library will have its normal Wednesday hours of 1-9 PM.

Boabom Series: Self Defense
|

SATURDAYS, March 14, 21, and 28 at 1:30 PM
|
Learn basic self defense techniques in a fun, positive class. Based in Boabom, a Tibetan system of self-defense, relaxation, and meditation, this class will teach you a variety of simple but effective ways to remain calm in a tense situation and defend yourself should you need to. Please wear loose, comfortable clothing and shoes that are easy to move in.

The Past & Present of Black Boston
|

Join Mary McNeil, research assistant for Tufts University’s African American Trail Project, for a lively discussion about the rich history of Black Boston. Mary will introduce attendees to the work of the African American Trail Project before discussing a few sites of interest in the greater Boston area. Copies of the African American Trail Project’s map will also be made available to attendees.

Japanese Paper Theater (Kamishibai) with Yumi

FRIDAY, March 13 at 2:30 PM

Join storyteller Yumi Izuyama to experience kamishibai in person, as she retells Goethe’s famous fable, The Boy and the Jaguar! Kamishibai is a Japanese paper storytelling method that will engage kids and adults alike.

This program includes STEM art activities after the performance to enhance the engagement of the children and show how these stories can relate to them and their own families and community. For kids ages 4-7.

STEAM Saturday: Pi Day!

Join Ms. Julie for a fun afternoon of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math! This week we’ll be celebrating Pi Day (3/14) by discovering the number pi and exploring math concepts through art! For kids ages 6-9.
