Virtual Star Wars Celebration

Star Wars header

SATURDAY, May 9 at 1 PM

We know that our community looks forward to the Library’s May the Fourth events celebrating the legacy of Star Wars. We miss seeing you all in person too (especially all of your costumes). This year, we’re bringing that distant galaxy to you through the power of a virtual visit!
BEFORE THE EVENT
We need your help to make this event as exciting as it is in person!
  • CALL 617-651-1831: Tell us your questions! Call and leave us a voicemail: If you could ask a Star Wars character any question about their universe, what you would ask?
  • POST: Show us your costume! Dress up in your favorite Star Wars outfit. Post a costumed photo to Facebook or Instagram and tag us @brklib.
ON SATURDAY MAY 9
Join us virtually at 1 PM for trivia, a chance to show off costumes, and a Q&A session (using YOUR questions!) with some exciting guests. This is a family friendly event, and we encourage all Star Wars fans to tune in.
To attend this event, you MUST register — once you do, we’ll send you the super secret location for our event two days before it starts. REGISTER HERE.

Virtual Boabom Classes

Boabom

WEDNESDAYS, May 13, 20, and 27 at 7 PM

Join Yemado, Director of the Boston School of Boabom, for a 3-week online course in Boabom, a system of breathing, meditation, movement, and defense with roots in ancient Tibet. This course will introduce both the gentle and faster systems of movement within the Boabom Arts. Classes will practice breathing techniques, stretching and strengthening exercises, and movements designed to build coordination and focus, combining them into a harmonious class that is both relaxing and invigorating.

All you need to participate are comfortable clothes that you can move around in, enough space to stretch your arms fully, and be able to take a couple of steps. No prior experience is required. All are welcome!
Please register for the series here.

Author Talk: Rachel Barenbaum in conversation with Michelle Hoover

THURSDAY, May 14 at 7 PM

Join us on Zoom to celebrate the paperback release of local author Rachel Barenbaum’s novel, A Bend in the Stars.

In Russia, in the summer of 1914, as war with Germany looms and the Czar’s army tightens its grip on the local Jewish community, Miri Abramov and her brilliant physicist brother, Vanya, are facing an impossible decision. As the eclipse that will change history darkens skies across Russia, not only the safety of Miri’s own family but the future of science itself hangs in the balance. Grounded in real history — and inspired by the solar eclipse of 1914 — A Bend in the Stars offers a heart-stopping account of modern science’s greatest race amidst the chaos of World War I, and a love story as epic as the railways crossing Russia.

To learn more, check out Rachel Barenbaum’s interview on NPR!

This program is in partnership with Brookline Booksmith.
