Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration – 中秋節慶祝活動

Stuffed Animal Sleepover at Hall’s Pond
|
|
This summer at the Library was all about adventures so we could “Read Beyond the Beaten Path!” A stuffed animal sleepover--complete with a trip to Hall’s Pond Sanctuary and Amory Playground--made for the perfect adventure right here in Brookline. Your stuffed animals had such a good time that they wrote all about their adventures (with a little help from our librarians). Weekly and monthly children's programs are back at all three Library locations! TUESDAY, September 6 at 2:30 PM
|
Welcome back to school! Join us in the Children’s Garden starting at 2:30 PM on the first day of school to have a sweet treat, tell us what you want to see at the Library this school year, and learn about Library programs and resources.
|
Kids, tweens, and teens of all ages are welcome to stop by. We will be handing out popsicles from 2:30 to 3:30 PM or while supplies last. Staff members will also be available to provide more information about programs, answer any questions, and help with registration for our book clubs and role playing game groups.
|
If the weather is not suitable for an outdoor program, this event will be moved to Rabbit Hole. This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Brookline Public Library.

Tween D&D at the Library: Character Creation
|
|

WEDNESDAY, September 7 at 3 PM
|
Dungeons & Dragons is coming back to the Brookline Village Library Tween Room! If you have never created a character for D&D (or you still need practice), this one-time event will get you ready with a brand new character. This D&D program will use tabletop, pen and paper play. No computers or voice chat needed. All character sheets, pencils, and dice will be provided. This event will not feature any game play. The regular play sessions will begin for tweens on September 21.
|
Limit to 10 participants per session. For tweens in grades 5-7 only. This session is in person, but Eventbrite registration is still required.

ELL Creative Writing Series: In Your Own Words
|

THURSDAY, September 15 at 12:30 PM
|
Join us for a fun, friendly series of three workshops on September 15, September 29, and October 13 as we explore the topic of creative writing in English. This program will help you build on your current knowledge and take your writing beyond a typical classroom setting. Become a part of a supportive group, and see how expressing yourself creatively can make your skills stronger.
|
This program is open to all adult English language learners who are comfortable writing full sentences in English – no creative writing experience required. This series includes three 90-minute writing workshops. You can attend any or all of the sessions. No registration required. Please note that we will not be able to accommodate children or strollers due to space constraints.

SATURDAY, September 17
|
The Library is delighted to participate in Brookline Porchfest 2022! This event features local musicians performing on porches all around town, and the Library will be hosting several bands. Stop by to see the following performers in concert:

- 12-1 PM at the Brookline Village Library: Polar Vortex
- 1-2 PM at the Brookline Village Library: Tim from School Night
- 2-3 PM at the Putterham Library: Vertigo Trio
- 3-4 PM at the Putterham Library: Antarctica
We recommend bringing a picnic blanket or folding chair to sit on. At the Brookline Village Library, your local librarians will also be stationed outdoors with free books, bookmarks, and more – so come say hello!

The Bay State: A Multicultural Landscape - on display through October 31
|
Mark Chester’s powerful photographs create a visual archive that celebrates the broad diversity of Massachusetts’ citizens, who hail from most of the 195 countries and territories around the globe. Exhibition companion books are available in the Minuteman Library Network. There will be an opening reception for this exhibit on Sunday, September 18 from 1:30-4:30 PM.

Harpoon Cartoons: The Art of Christopher MacDonald - on display through September 17
|
Christopher MacDonald is an artist who specializes in animation and illustration. He has an aesthetic interest in days gone by, utilizing early 20th century cartoons and retro gaming as a lens in order to experience the stories he tells.

The Art of Lexi D - on display through September 17
|
Lexi D has been a hobbyist illustrator and designer since she first got her hands on a 64 piece set of Crayola Crayons at the ripe age of 8. Her work is inspired by fantasy, cartoons, video games, and maximalism.

Kai, Max, and Harrison’s Bubblegum Collection and Mia’s LEGO Collection - on display through September 12
|
In our wall case, Mia shares her LEGO and Aquabeads collection. Mia’s favorite color is blue, and she is excited to share the LEGOs gifted to her by friends and family! In our flat case, Kai, Max, and Harrison share their bubblegum collection. They started this collection in 2020, and are up to 3 boxes full of gum! Stop by the Brookline Village Children’s Room to see these amazing collections. And sign up for a slot in our display cases here!
