June 17 - August 17
Join the 2024 Summer Reading Program with the Public Library of Brookline! Renew your love of reading this summer with exciting programs and fun prizes. The program is open to community members of all ages, from kids through adults. To participate, simply:
Kids: Sign Up and Log Your Reading! Kids ages birth to entering 4th grade (ages 0-9) can sign up for the program through our online tracker, Beanstack, or by asking at any Library location. For the duration of the program, track your hours spent reading using your Beanstack account or a paper log to spin the prize wheel and win prizes.
Tweens, Teens, and Adults: Visit the Library! Visit any Public Library of Brookline location and check out at least one item to earn a spin on our prize wheel. Registration or logging your reading is not required for tweens, teens, or adults (ages 10+).
Everyone: Attend Programs! We'll also be holding programs for adults and kids of all ages throughout the summer. Join us at the Putterham Library on June 20th, at Winthrop Square Park on June 21st, or the Brookline Village Library on June 22nd for special, summer reading kickoff parties with music and prizes for all ages! Explore making animals from shapes with artist Nell Valle! From sketching to final art, we’ll learn how you can make the most expressive characters from unique and fun takes on basic shapes. This workshop is great for participants ages 8-12 who like character art, creativity, and being silly. Learn to see what is possible! Space is limited, so tickets can be picked up on a first come, first served basis at the children’s desk starting at 2:30 PM on the day of the event. An additional session focused on drawing and lettering is available from 4:30-5:30 PM.
Nell is a Chinese-American illustrator based in Boston. She specializes in the big and small: public art and comics. She is known for her cute characters, bright colors, and bold, fun lines. She graduated from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in illustration and a minor in creative writing. She also has experience in art gallery installation and art instruction.
