Thanking Robin Brenner
On behalf of the Trustees of the Public Library of Brookline, I am honored to offer words of praise for Robin Brenner. Robin has been a teen librarian in Brookline for 18 years, and although we know she will continue to do great things in her new position in Woburn, we are all very sorry to see her go.
I don't recall when I actually first met Robin, but I knew she was someone special. She brought with her to our library an extensive knowledge of the world of comic books and graphic novels, knowledge that went well beyond the genre that most people associate with comics, that of superheroes. Robin knew that teens (and many adults) enjoyed reading stories and nonfiction in graphic novel form, and she was here at just the right time as the publishing world saw an explosion of stories told in this format for the tween and teen audience. Robin worked tirelessly to curate a collection that Brookline can be proud of; indeed, for some of the books our library acquired about the graphic novel form, the closest other copies in New England cannot be found unless you visit the Rhode Island School of Design.
But Robin went far beyond collections development when it came to serving our patrons. Robin wanted to capture the imaginations of our patrons through her dedication to expansive programming, and she succeeded admirably. None of us will ever forget how Robin, with the help and assistance of the whole staff, turned the Brookline Village library into a magical school of witchcraft and wizardry one weekend a year for a few years running, hosting an event that enchanted children, their parents, and young adults alike. Throughout every year, though, Robin created other programming, inviting authors, artists, and other speakers for both adults and kids. As a librarian, as an author, as an advocate for teens, and as an ambassador for the graphic novel and comic book format, Robin has been a valuable member of the Brookline library family. She will be deeply missed.

Join special performer Matt Heaton for an interactive singalong! This program is for families and kids of all ages but may be most appealing to kids ages 0-5. This will be a thirty minute concert. We can’t wait to sing along with you!
About the performer: Matt Heaton believes music for kids can be entertaining for both children AND parents. His songs blend mid century American guitar styles: surf, rockabilly, western swing & soul, delivered with a wry sense of humor and a sincere sense of fun. Children and adults respond to his musicianship and variety. The grown ups in the room particularly appreciate the Muppet-esque touches of humor and observations of kid behavior. Whether you call it children’s music, family music, kindie or toddlerbilly it’s sure to please listeners of all ages.

This event is generously sponsored by the Brookline Library Foundation and the Friends of the Brookline Public Library.
