The Hidden Cost of Plastic to Human Health

Brookline Village

Thursday, January 16 at 6:30 PM

Mounting evidence indicates that plastics pose hidden risks to human health. Plastic can now be found everywhere- in the ocean, air, animals, fish and every part of the
human body. Public health experts are connecting endocrine disorders, cancer, child development and fertility issues to plastics in our bodies. Yet plastic production is growing exponentially, with single use plastics the fastest growing segment of production. There are solutions! Learn what Brookline is doing and what we as individuals can do to improve our environmental and human health and work towards capping production of plastics.

This program will feature Dr. Philip Landrigan, Director of Global Public Health and the Common Good at Boston College; Sasha Palmer, Director of Food Services in the Brookline Public Schools; Miriam Gordon, a leader in the reuse movement and architect of innovative policy models; and Katie Weatherseed, Brookline’s Zero Waste Program Manager.

Sponsored by Brookline Dept. of Public Works, Brookline Mothers Out Front, Brookline Dept. of Public Health and Human Services, Friends of Brookline Public Health, Brookline Rotary, Climate Action Brookline, and Elders Climate Action.
