Historical Fencing Lecture & Demo

Brookline Village

Thursday, March 6 at 7 PM

Have you ever wondered what historical swordfighting was really like? Boston Armizare, a nonprofit historical fencing club based in Allston, is offering a free lecture and demonstrations of the medieval and renaissance combat techniques of Fiore dei Liberi, Salvator Fabris and other fencing masters. They will be teaching attendees about the history of arms and armor, the context in which contemporary people encountered martial techniques, the reasons behind the techniques described in the fencing manuals they use, and a little bit about historical translations.

Some of their instructors, dressed in full gear, will also safely demonstrate what some of these techniques would look like in real life! This will be followed by a question-and-answer session. They will also allow attendees to handle some of the training tools they use, under supervision.
