Literacy for Immigrant Families

Literacy for Immigrant Families is a program where parents and students come together to read grade-level books and learn how to support literacy development. The program is designed for emerging and struggling readers in grades 1-5. Students have opportunities to practice reading skills using different strategies. After reading a book, students complete a book review and discuss the elements of a story to enhance reading comprehension and vocabulary skills. Parents participate alongside their children. The program is supported by partnerships between the district’s ELL program and the Brookline Main Library.
