Seeds and Plants and their Cultivation A presentation by Ken Greene of Hudson Valley Seed Company

Brookline Garden Club and Chestnut Hill Garden Club will host Ken Green of Hudson Valley Seed Company.  Ken will describe the joys and pitfalls of starting an all organic seed supply company. He will share with us what he believes are the most sustainable seed practices particularly as it relates to native species.

The Art of Seed
If every seed is a story, then every plant is a work of art bringing seed stories to life. This presentation showcases a timeline of seed heritage up to the modern seed industry through elegant, humorous, and telling images from the Hudson Valley Seed Company’s collection of antique seed catalogs and contemporary seed pack art.  Through looking at and digging deeper into the artworks, learn about a diversity of seed stories and how seeds connect us to food, butterflies, history, good soil, our ancestors and each other. Discover the history of seed diversity and the modern importance of ethical seed stewardship along with beautiful and tasty varieties you can grow at home!
