Songs of World War I
In honor of Veteran’s Day and the 99th anniversary of the end of World War I, the Brookline Coolidge Corner Library invites you to listen to the Songs of World War I, performed by tenor and guitarist Doug Schmolze. In this centennial retrospective, Doug will present a variety of songs from the 1910s, including patriotic songs. With anecdotes and historical notes, the program provides insight into the mood of the era that ushered in the “War to End All Wars.” Audiences will recognize (and are encouraged to sing along to!) patriotic songs such as “Over There” and “You’re a Grand Old Flag” by George M. Cohan that remain popular. Other lesser known waltzes, ragtime, and romantic songs by composers of the era will be performed as well.
Visuals and lyrics to sing-a-longs will be provided by an accompanying PowerPoint presentation.
