Kamishibai – A Japanese Paper Theater Storytelling Program with Coding STEM Activities

Join Kamishibai Storyteller Yumi Izuyama and STEM Instructor Kendall Inglese for their presentation of the classic tale of The Rolling Rice Balls. This Ideaspace program is for children ages 4 and up. Please arrive early to ensure a spot; this program is first-come, first-served, for the first 30 children.

Induction Cooking Demonstration

TUESDAY, January 28 at 7 PM

Join Mothers Out Front Brookline, the organization that donated the Coolidge Corner Library’s new induction cooking kits, for a demonstration of induction cooking. You’ll witness how quickly induction heat can warm a pot of water and melt a bar of chocolate. Get tips for cooking with induction heat, information on the technology that powers it, and samples of melted chocolate in this interactive demo session. Ready to try it yourself? Request one of our induction cooking kits!

Midday Monday Mystery

The Midday Monday Mystery book group is back! Join us on the second Monday of the month for the Coolidge Corner Library's mystery book group. The next meeting will be February 10, discussing A Murder of Magpies by Judith Flanders. Copies of the book are available at the Coolidge Corner Library.

Roaring Twenties Party
|
|
|
SATURDAY, February 1, 1-4 PM
|
Celebrate the beginning of the twenties with a Roaring Twenties Party for adults and children of all ages. We’ll have a 1920s photo booth, mocktails, trivia, and makeup tutorials–plus a bead craft for kids.

The event takes place from 1-4 PM, with swing dancing lessons from 2-3 PM. 1920s clothing welcome!

Author Talk: Alex Myers
|
|
|
SATURDAY, February 8 at 2 PM
|
What is gender? Why does it matter? Author Alex Myers will talk about the basics of gender identity using his novel Continental Divide and his own life experiences as a guide for understanding. The talk will consider historical and cultural contexts for understanding gender and look at Continental Divide, which tells the story of a teenage trans boy in 1992 who heads from Boston out west in search of the masculine ideal.

Lunar New Year Celebration 慶祝農曆新年

SUNDAY, February 9 at 2 PM
|
Come ring in the Year of the Rat with us! We will be celebrating on Sunday, February 9 at 2 PM with a Lion Dance demonstration by Gund Kwok, the only Asian women’s Lion & Dragon dance troupe in the United States; a Chinese calligraphy demonstration; and a children’s activity. All ages welcome. Generously sponsored by the Friends of the Brookline Public Library, Trader Joe’s, and Roche Bros.
