Lunar New Year Celebration 慶祝農曆新年

SUNDAY, February 9 at 2 PM

Come ring in the Year of the Rat with us! We will be celebrating on Sunday, February 9 at 2 PM with a Lion Dance demonstration by Gund Kwok, the only Asian women’s Lion & Dragon dance troupe in the United States; a Chinese calligraphy demonstration; and a children’s activity. All ages welcome. Generously sponsored by the Friends of the Brookline Public Library, Trader Joe’s, and Roche Bros.

Children’s Room Construction

MONDAY, February 10 - WEDNESDAY, February 12

The Brookline Village Children’s Room will be closed for carpet replacement from Monday, February 10, 2020 through Wednesday, February 12, 2020. Youth Services staff and a small selection of Children’s materials will be located on the second floor in Hunneman Hall during the closure. The rest of the Library will remain open during the room closure.

No afternoon Children’s programs will be held on February 10, 11, or 12. Terrific Twos (And Threes!) on Tuesday, February 11th at 10:30 AM will be held on the ground floor in the Commons. Mother Goose On the Loose on Wednesday, February 12 at 10:30 AM will be held on the ground floor in the Commons. Neither storytime will require a ticket. Please contact the Children’s Room at 617-730-2340 for any questions.

Author Talk: Alex Myers

Author Talk Alex Myers

SATURDAY, February 8 at 2 PM

What is gender? Why does it matter? Author Alex Myers will talk about the basics of gender identity using his novel Continental Divide and his own life experiences as a guide for understanding. The talk will consider historical and cultural contexts for understanding gender and look at Continental Divide, which tells the story of a teenage trans boy in 1992 who heads from Boston out west in search of the masculine ideal.

Get Certified: Button Makers!

Did you know we have a button maker? Would you like to get certified to use it?
Drop by the Coolidge Corner Library any time between 2:30 PM and 3:30 PM for a pop-up button certification workshop. Once you’ve been certified, you’ll be able to borrow the button maker for in-library use whenever you’d like!

AARP Tax Assistance Program

AARP Volunteer Tax Assistance will be available at the Brookline Village Library on the following days: February 13, February 20, February 21, March 5, March 6, and March 13.

There is no income guideline to qualify for assistance. However AARP’s target group for the tax aid program is low and moderate individuals or families. Appointments must be made in-person at the Brookline Village Reference Desk. For more information please visit or call the Reference Desk at the Brookline Village location.

Teen Cookie Trivia and Taste Test
