Virtual Mindfulness for Tweens
|
|
Starts TUESDAY, April 21 at 2 PM
|
We’re partnering with Mindful Minis Boston for a multi-week mindfulness series made specifically for tweens (grades 5-7)! Class activities will help tweens calm their minds, understand how their brains work, keep them physically aware, handle emotions, boost positivity, and have fun! Each session will last around 30 minutes. Sign up for one or all four.

All you’ll need is a computer for a Zoom call and room to dance and move. Any additional materials will be emailed the day of. Registration through Eventbrite is required. Please register here. This event series is for tweens in grades 5-7 only. Generously sponsored by The Brookline Library Foundation.

Virtual Memory Cafe
|
|
WEDNESDAY, April 22 at 1:30 PM
|
Please join us for a Virtual/Conference Call-style “Memory Connections Café.” The session will be led by Jamie Jensen, Memory Connections Cafe Coordinator from the Brookline Senior Center. We will reminisce over “icebreaker” questions and then be joined by Reference Librarian Cailey Biles, who will discuss what’s happening at the Library with current online program offerings, as well as answer any questions about accessing resources.

We will then be joined by Music Therapist Emily Higgins who will lead the group in an upbeat music therapy session. We are thankful to Season’s Hospice & Palliative Care for their sponsorship of this special Café!

ideaSPACE Craft-Along: Upcycled Terrarium
|
|
THURSDAY, April 23 at 7 PM
|
Celebrate Earth Day with the ideaSPACE Team in this virtual workshop and learn to make your own tiny upcycled terrarium out of common household items. Watch and try it later on your own or bring your supplies and craft-along with us! You’ll need:

- An Old, Clean Container (glass jars and mint tins work especially well)
- Glue
- Whatever craft supplies you have on hand! Paper, felt, pompoms, old magazines, paint, markers, cardboard, wire – bring it all!

Virtual Poetry Discussion Group

Celebrate National Poetry Month with a virtual poetry discussion group. We’ll read aloud and discuss a handful of poems selected by the Academy of American Poets and the League of Canadian Poets (no need to read anything in advance). The packet of poems can be found here.

Public Library of Brookline in the News
|
Library Director Sara Slymon has been in the news talking about how the Public Library of Brookline is serving our community while taking measures to keep our patrons and staff safe. She appeared on an episode of WGBH's In It Together to discuss virtual library services and using the Library as a temporary firehouse. Then she was quoted in a New York Times article on libraries closing during the pandemic.
