An Update from the Library Director
|
Dear Friends in the Brookline Community:
|
It is with a heavy heart that I report that the Public Library of Brookline will remain shuttered until at least June 29, in keeping with the closure of the Brookline Public Schools and all schools in the Commonwealth. We miss you all very much, and know that you miss us, too. Keep an eye on social media for a glimpse of some of our faces smiling out at you.
|
As the COVID-19 epidemic in Massachusetts begins to subside, we will begin to prepare in earnest to reopen as soon as we can and welcome you back.
|
Don’t forget we are offering lots and lots of wonderful services online!

A Note on Book Returns
|
|
Since we have been closed, we occasionally get asked how to return books. We appreciate our community's thoughtfulness in asking; however, we cannot check in materials while the Library is closed. Please keep your checked out items until we are able to reopen. No one will have to pay fines for having materials checked out while the Library is closed. Similarly, we are unable to accept book donations at this time, so we ask community members to not leave materials in front of the Library buildings.

We have many online resources--from virtual programs to answering your reference questions to digital books, movies, magazines, and more! Join us on Facebook Live for a fun program led by Brookline’s very own park rangers! Come hear a fun story about spring, followed by a short sensory exercise and a craft. Recommended for ages 3 and up.

Virtual Mindfulness for Tweens
|
|
TUESDAYS, April 28, May 5, May 12 at 2 PM
|
We’re partnering with Mindful Minis Boston for a multi-week mindfulness series made specifically for tweens (grades 5-7)! Class activities will help tweens calm their minds, understand how their brains work, keep them physically aware, handle emotions, boost positivity, and have fun! Each session will last around 30 minutes. Sign up for one or more classes.

All you’ll need is a computer for a Zoom call and room to dance and move. Any additional materials will be emailed the day of. Registration through Eventbrite is required. Please register here. This event series is for tweens in grades 5-7 only. Generously sponsored by The Brookline Library Foundation.

ideaSPACE Craft-Along: Collage Art

THURSDAY, April 30 at 4 PM
|
Join the ideaSPACE Team in this virtual workshop and learn the basics of collage. Watch and try it later on your own or bring your supplies and craft-along with us! You’ll need:

- Paper! Unwanted books or magazines are great to use, too.
- White Glue or Modge Podge
If you have them, we also recommend:
|
- An Old Gift Card to use as a scraper
- Any Paint, Paint Pens, or Sharpies you have on hand
