Summer Reading is coming! This summer, we’ll be bringing Summer Reading to you online. From June 15 – August 14, we'll have reading prompts, fun activities, and online programs for patrons of all ages – plus weekly raffles and grand prize drawings for gift cards to local businesses.

Supporting our community is what the Library does best. That’s why this summer, for every person who registers between June 1 and June 30, the Friends of the Brookline Public Library will make a donation to the Brookline Food Pantry.

Check out our video about Summer Reading, and sign up on our website.

Edith Pearlman Award

The Trustees of the Public Library of Brookline are proud to present the 2020 Edith Pearlman Award to Brookline High School senior Chris Jennings. The Edith Pearlman Award celebrates a student who has demonstrated exceptional ability and achievement in the area of creative writing.

Chris Jennings is a devoted writer and filmmaker. He is passionate, reflective, driven and humble. He is the first to praise others for their stories and always has something kind and perceptive to offer his peers. He is unabashedly hard-working. He believes in challenging himself in every which way--academically, personally, creatively. He is not afraid to throw himself out there, even when it feels like a risk. His work shines on the page but what a treat to listen to Chris read his work aloud in his dramatic voice. He is a deep thinker and old soul and inspiration to those around him.

The Edith Pearlman Award was established in 2016 as a tribute to Pearlman, an acclaimed short-story and travel writer and a long-time resident of Brookline. Fellow writers praise Pearlman's "capacity to draw beauty from loss" and her sensitivity to "the difference between seeing and understanding." Her perceptive, delicately crafted work serves as a source of inspiration to young writers like Chris Jennings and future winners of the Award.
