Library Updates

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff at the Public Library of Brookline has been hard at work to provide resources and services in as many formats as safely possible. You can read all the updates our director, Sara Slymon, has been writing as events unfold. Also, take a look at our all-virtual event offerings! We have online storytimes, book clubs, and much more.

Due Dates

We are pleased to announce that we have extended the due dates on most library materials to August 31. Please do not worry about items checked out before the pandemic being overdue before that time. If you have questions about items on your account or about returning materials, we invite you to call or email the Library

Return Items

Library book drops are now open during limited hours.
All materials will be quarantined for 3 days after they are returned and before we check them in. You will not accrue fines during that time.

Contactless Pickup

Starting July 6, contactless pickup will be available for library materials. The steps are:
  1. Place a hold on library material.
You can do this via the online catalog or MLN app, or call / chat with a librarian.
  2. Wait until you’ve been notified that your hold is ready to pick up.
  3. Schedule an appointment to pick up your hold(s).
You can also explore our wide range of online resources including ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, and learning.

Ask Questions

You can ask librarians your questions by phone, chat, or email.
For phone and chat hours, see our hours page.

Extra Hoopla Borrows

hoopla borrows
We have good news! As of July 1, Brookline patrons are able to check out 15 Hoopla ebooks and audiobooks per month. That's an extra 5 borrows per month! Many thanks to the Brookline Library Foundation and their generous support for making this possible.

THURSDAYS at 10:30 AM

Until further notice, the English Conversation Groups for English language learners (ELL) previously being held in-person at the Library are now being offered online via Zoom. These informal groups are staffed by Friends of the Library volunteers. Small groups will give you the opportunity to improve your English skills. Join us as we meet every Thursday morning from 10:30 to 11:45 AM.

If you are an intermediate-advanced learner you can register for these free groups at Brooklineconversationgroup@gmail.com.
