Virtual Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration
|
|
|
Join us for a virtual Mid-Autumn Festival! Starting Tuesday, September 29, we’ll be featuring Mid-Autumn Festival videos on our YouTube Channel, including an Introduction to Chinese Calligraphy, a lantern craft, moon cake baking, and more. Make sure to check them out here!
|
We're also offering Mid-Autumn Festival Kits. These kits are recommended for children ages 5-9 and come with calligraphy practice paper, lantern craft supplies, and fun riddles in Mandarin and English! Here’s how it works:
|
- Reserve your Mid-Autumn Festival Kit on Eventbrite beginning at 7 PM on Thursday, September 24.
- We’ll put your kit on the holdshelf for two weeks, starting Tuesday, September 29. Just swing by the Library any time during operating hours to pick it up.
- Whenever you’re ready to celebrate, open your kit and follow the printed or video instructions to create your own paper lantern and to try your hand at calligraphy. That’s it. You can keep everything in your kit – no returns necessary.
Didn’t get a kit? You can still celebrate with our video series. The riddles and craft instruction sheets included in the kits will be available on our website. Don’t forget to check back on our website for the riddle answers!

100 Books Before High School/Graduation Info Session

We are excited to be launching two new programs for middle and high school students: 100 Books Before High School (for grades 6-8) and 100 Books Before Graduation (for grades 9-12)! Tweens and teens will have the opportunity to read 100 books of their choice and enjoy fun perks, such as monthly raffles, a grand prize upon completion, expert book recommendations from our Tween and Teen Librarians, and major bragging rights!

This informational Zoom session is for tweens, teens, and parents who may have questions about the programs. Drop in if you have a question, or just want to chat with others who are taking on the challenge!

Virtual Screening of Rigged
|
|

RIGGED: The Voter Suppression Playbook is an award-winning documentary that exposes the nefarious tactics used to suppress the vote and serves to spark discussion on the actions needed to protect our democracy. Shot principally during the 2016 election but still relevant today, the film tracks a systematic, decade-long effort to reverse the impact of the growing demographic tide of non-white and younger voters who helped elect President Barack Obama in 2008. It details a variety of voter suppression “plays,” or tactics, ranging from the purging of voting rolls and passing of new, restrictive voter ID laws to gerrymandering and voter intimidation. The film includes revealing interviews detailing how the voter suppression game is played as well as cogent insights from leading voting rights advocates and law professors. It is narrated by Tony & Emmy award-winning actor, Jeffrey Wright.

Following the screening of the film, there will be a panel discussion on voting rights and democracy in the time of COVID-19 with executive producer, Mac Heller.
