In honor of Indigenous Peoples Day, we are celebrating works by Indigenous writers and artists. Check out these books and movies for all ages, in a variety of genres. The Past & Present of Black Boston

MONDAY, October 19 at 7 PM

Join Mary McNeil, research assistant for Tufts University’s African American Trail Project, for a lively discussion about the rich history of Black Boston. Mary will introduce attendees to the work that the African American Trail Project is up to before discussing a few sites of interest in the greater Boston area.

Mary McNeil is a Ph.D. candidate in Harvard University’s American Studies Program and a research assistant for Tufts University’s African American Trail Project. Her research and teaching interests broadly lie in Black studies, Native American studies, Black and Indigenous feminisms, social movement history, urban history, geography, and public humanities.

WEDNESDAY, October 14 at 1 PM

Join librarians Cailey and Lauren to practice your English language skills as we read or listen to materials in English and gather online for virtual discussion. This group is open to all adult English Language Learners but will be geared towards intermediate and advanced speakers. At our October meeting, we'll be discussing My Husband, My Job, Myself: A Story of Three Marriages by Seljah Shah.

Virtual Boabom Series: Meditation

WEDNESDAYS, October 14 and 21 at 7 PM

In this hour-long, fully guided class, you will learn and practice a variety of relaxation and meditation techniques based in Boabom, a Tibetan system of meditation, breathing, and movement. Combining breathing, sound, visualization, and imagination, Boabom Meditation will help you develop mindfulness, slow down, and release stress. Suitable for both new and experienced meditators. It’s recommended that you have a yoga mat, pillow, or bolster, as much of the class will take place seated or lying down.

Virtual English Club: Mass Audubon Presentation

FRIDAY, October 16 at noon

Join us online to practice English! This virtual English Club is open to adult learners of all levels.

This week, we’ll be joined by educators from Mass Audubon. They will introduce live animals native to Massachusetts and discuss their adaptations, their importance to local ecology, and the conservation challenges they face. You’ll have a chance to see these animals live over Zoom and to ask questions.

The meeting will start right at 12 noon. Children are welcome to join their parents during English Club but please do not leave them unsupervised. If you have any questions please contact brkenglish@minlib.net.
