Speculative Fiction Book Group

Join us to explore science fiction and fantasy literature in a brand new book group: the Speculative Fiction Book Group. This group meets at the Brookline Village Library on the fourth Wednesday of the month, starting on September 25. Copies of the first selection, The Black Tides of Heaven by JY Yang, are available at the front desk of the Brookline Village Library. The audiobook is also available via Hoopla.

Tween and Teen Taste Test Challenge

Teens and tweens, join us for an afternoon challenge: judge which oreos are the tastiest and see how many flavors you can identify! Open to tweens and teens in grades 5 through 12. Generously sponsored by the Friends of the Brookline Public Library.

Dungeons and Dragons Character Workshop
|
|
|
FRIDAY, September 20 at 2 PM
|
Try your hand at creating new characters for D&D. If you’re new to the game, come learn the mechanics of character creation! If you’re a seasoned veteran, come talk to others about D&D and try creating something brand new! Character sheets and manuals provided, but you’re welcome to bring your own.
|
Regular games sessions for D&D will begin October 4, two weeks after the character creation workshop. For tweens and teens in grades 5 and up only.

Heading for Extinction (And What To Do About It)

In this talk, speakers from Extinction Rebellion Boston will share the latest climate science on where our planet is heading, discuss some of the current psychology around climate change, and offer solutions through the study of social movements.

This event is part of a larger effort by Massachusetts libraries and CREW (Communities Responding to Extreme Weather) to highlight Climate Preparedness Week and create more opportunities for community discussion and involvement.

How to Create a Graphic Novel Page

Like reading comics and graphic novels? Now it’s your turn to start your own in this comics-making boot camp! We’ll discuss character development and plot strategy, then you’ll be coached in drawing a graphic novel page. In addition to storytelling, topics include lettering, penciling, and inking.

Introduction to Salsa Dancing

Learn the basics of salsa dancing with Johnny Giraldo from Salsa y Control Dance Company. This fun and engaging class will introduce the basic steps and turns, along with footwork isolations and exercises that will get you moving and dancing in no time. By the end of the class, you’ll combine what you’ve learned in a short, fun footwork combination.
