Library Closed for Thanksgiving
|
All Public Library of Brookline locations will close early, at 5 PM, on Wednesday, November 24 and remain closed Thursday, November 25 for Thanksgiving. Regular hours will resume Friday, November 26.
|
|
Due to the holiday, there will be no children's programs from Wednesday, November 24 through Sunday, November 28. We will be resuming our regular programming schedule starting on Monday, November 29.
|

Congratulations, Anne Reed!
|
All of us at the Library would like to congratulate Anne Reed, our longtime Assistant Library Director for Administration, on her upcoming retirement – and to express our appreciation for all of her work at the Library. Anne has been at the Library for 46 years, and has worked at all three Library locations and nearly every department.
|
|
Not only has Anne been a skilled librarian and a treasure trove of institutional knowledge, she has also been a wonderful coworker and a mentor to so many of us on staff. We'd like to thank Anne for her dedication to our community, and we wish her all the best in her well-deserved retirement.

New Digitized Local Newspapers
|
|
|
We are happy to announce the addition of 20 more years of newspapers to our digitized special collections: 1920-1940. This batch is even better quality, in grayscale scans with sharply-defined text and graphics. All content offers transcription and original layout versions and has several filters for searching. You can download content in whole pages or select sections. Check out our digitized local newspapers here!

|
Jeff Zentner is the author of New York Times Notable Book The Serpent King, Goodbye Days, and Rayne & Delilah’s Midnite Matinee. His latest book, In The Wild Light, has drawn critical acclaim. He has won the William C. Morris Award, the Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award, the International Literacy Association Award, and the Westchester Fiction Award. He’s a two-time Southern Book Prize finalist, been longlisted for the Carnegie Medal and UKLA, and was a finalist for the Indies Choice Award. He was selected as a Publishers Weekly Flying Start and an Indies Introduce pick. His books have been translated into fifteen languages. Before becoming a writer, he was a musician who recorded with Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, and Debbie Harry. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee.

Virtual Onigiri Action Kit Cooking Class
|
|
Let’s make onigiri, Japanese rice balls!
Learn about and make onigiri, Japanese rice balls, and make a difference with the Onigiri Action campaign. This annual event, organized by TABLE FOR TWO, is a social good campaign to address food insecurity.
|
Registration for kits is required! There are 30 Onigiri Action kits available for reservation. Each kit contains all of the ingredients and tools you and your family will need to make onigiri plus a few surprises to make the class more fun. We will have 10 kits to pick up at each of our library locations.
|

This is a family-friendly event and all ages are welcome, and we encourage families to enjoy the program together. This event is generously sponsored by the Brookline Library Foundation.

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month
|
|
November is Native American Heritage Month. It's a time to celebrate the rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories, and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native People. The items displayed in this exhibit are on loan from the North American Indian Center of Boston as well as individuals in the Native community.

The Writing of Jack Curtis
|
|
The new Emery Case display presents the recent work of freelance writer Jack Curtis in Art New England, a contemporary art and culture magazine. His report, "Re-thinking, Re-telling, Re-hanging" marks the 60th anniversary of Brandeis University's Rose Art Gallery and surveys "re: collections," the Rose's innovative exhibition that displays canonical artists alongside emerging and historically underrepresented artists.

The Beauty of Larz Anderson Park
|
|
Marylin Shapiro Klickstein has spent many hours enjoying the splendor of Larz Anderson Park. In these photographs, Marylin highlights the park’s quiet beauty through the seasons, focusing her camera on the play of light and shadow, water and reflections, and the flowers and trees, along with two of the park’s iconic structures, The Tempietto, or “Temple of Love”, and The Carriage House.
