UPCOMING EVENTS

Matt Heaton Family Singalong

Matt Heaton Family Singalong

April 27, 2024 11:00 AM @ Brookline Village - Hunneman Hall

Join special performer Matt Heaton for an interactive singalong! This program is for families and kids of all ages but may be most appealing to kids ages 0-5. This will be a thirty minute concert.

We can’t wait to sing along with you!

About the performer: Matt Heaton believes music for kids can be entertaining for both children AND parents. His songs blend mid century American guitar styles: surf, rockabilly, western swing & soul, delivered with a wry sense of humor and a sincere sense of fun. Children and adults respond to his musicianship and variety. The grown ups in the room particularly appreciate the Muppet-esque touches of humor and observations of kid behavior.  Whether you call it children’s music, family music, kindie or toddlerbilly it’s sure to please listeners of all ages.

Persian Dance Performance and Workshop

Persian Dance Performance and Workshop

Join them at the Library for a special performance followed by a Q&A session about Persian dance. Afterward, stick around for a fun and interactive dance workshop suitable for all skill levels. The performance and workshop are open to adults and kids of all ages. Everyone is invited to experience the beauty of Persian dance with Aftab Dance Group!

Sensory Storytime

Sensory Storytime

May 1, 2024 6:30 PM @ Brookline Village - The Rabbit Hole

Join us for Sensory Storytime at 6:30 PM in the Rabbit Hole at the Brookline Village Library. This storytime includes songs, books, and movement activities and will be followed by a free play activity.

Sensory storytime is designed for children who may need extra sensory support or for families who are looking for a more adaptive storytime experience, but all are welcome. This program is suggested for children ages 2-5 and their families, but you can decide if it’s the right fit for your family.

In order to help us keep this program sensory-friendly, it has a limited capacity and free tickets are required to attend. You can pick up a free ticket at the children’s desk beginning 30 minutes before the program.

Please Note: All storytimes include “sensory friendly” practices (e.g. routines, repetition, body breaks/movement, etc.). Our Sensory Storytime, however, includes additional practices such as a smaller group-size, lower lighting, lower music volume, adaptive supports, etc.

To prepare for this program, read our social story about visiting the Library and read our social story specifically about sensory storytime at the Brookline Village Library

Fixit Clinic

May 4, 2024 1:00 PM @ Brookline Village - Tween Room

Ever wanted to learn how to fix or repair broken and damaged items you own, like torn clothing or broken electronics, bicycles, computers, toys, or the like? You can learn how at the Fixit Clinic. We’ll pair you with a volunteer coach who can walk you through diagnosing the problem, disassembling the item as needed, and hopefully fixing whatever the issue is. This event is open to all and registration is suggested, but not required.

If you would like to register for the clinic here: https://bit.ly/itemcheckin

If you’d register as a volunteer coach, you can do that here: http://bit.ly/inpersoncoachsignup

MEET THE STAFF

Reference Librarian at Brookline Village Kerry O'Donnell

Me in Halloween Costume 2017
First literary crush (author or character): Lucivar Yaslana from The Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop.
Last song you listened to: Technically, “Shadows of the Night” by Pat Benatar is my most recently played song, but I’ve had Cher’s “If I Could Turn Back Time” stuck in my head since I put together a display for the library.
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw.
Name a word that starts with the letter Q: Quirky.
Movie or TV show you always watch when it comes on screen, no matter what: Gladiator, and The Princess Diaries.
If you could travel back in time, what period would you go to? Ancient Greece/Rome, The American Revolution, and/or the rise of the Celts in Ireland.
Cake or pie? Cake, definitely cake..
Big dogs or small dogs? Big dogs.
Hardcover or paperback? Paperbacks.
Fictional world or game you'd most like to visit? The Black Jewels series by Anne Bishop.
What book would you most like to see turned into a top-notch film or miniseries? There are two, but one is already happening. The Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas is currently being made into a TV show on Hulu. (Yay! I can't wait to see it!) I'd also love to see a faithful adaptation of the Fables graphic novels by Bill Willingham.
Favorite fictional librarian? Tie between Rupert Giles from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and Evie from The Mummy. Can you imagine that team-up? No monster would stand a chance!
Favorite fictional detective? Veronica Mars.
