Citizenship Clinic

SATURDAY, May 7 from 11 AM - 2 PM

The MIRA Coalition will be holding a clinic to provide free citizenship application assistance.

If you have had a green card for at least 4 years and 9 months (or 2 years and 9 months while married to a US citizen); if you speak, read, and write basic English; and if you have questions about your citizenship options, consider signing up for the clinic!

Registration is required. Register with MIRA for the free citizenship assistance clinic by calling 617-350-5480 x200 or emailing citizenship@miracoalition.org.

Mandarin Storytime - In Person!

WEDNESDAY, April 27 at 3 PM

Join us for an in-person Mandarin storytime filled with stories, songs, and poems! This storytime is geared for kids who are ages 0 to 6 years-old.

Space is limited, so please arrive early and stop by the Children’s Room Desk to get a storytime ticket. Only families with a storytime ticket will be admitted to the program.

For the safety of our program attendees and staff, masks will be required for all attendees ages 2 and older during the program.

Volunteer with the Book Sale at Putterham!

The Friends of the Brookline Library's book sale is up and running at both the Brookline Village and Coolidge Corner Libraries. The Friends are currently seeking a volunteer to bring the book sale back to the Putterham Library. If you love books, now is your chance to run your own book sale to benefit both the Putterham community and the Library as a whole. Proceeds from the book sale support the Library in various ways, funding programming, special projects, and more. If you are interested in volunteering with the book sale at Putterham, please reach out to the Friends at friendsofbrooklinelibrary@gmail.com.

Virtual Ramen Cooking Class

FINAL Ramen Workshop Flyer (11 × 8.5 in)

THURSDAY, April 28 at 7 PM

Join us for a fun and informative ramen cooking workshop! In this live cooking class, Chef Melissa, founder of Cooking Beautifullee, will guide you through every step of making nutritious, restaurant-quality ramen using local New England ingredients. Chef Melissa will show you how to cook ramen noodles in a homemade yellow miso-mustard broth, and poach fresh Nantucket scallops as toppings. Feel free to substitute scallops with tofu or shredded carrot if you prefer a vegetarian option. This program for adults will take place on Zoom, so you can cook along at home if you want!

Virtual: Mental Health Benefits of Being in Nature

We’re kicking off Mental Health Awareness Month with this fascinating and important conversation. Metro nature – including trees, parks, gardens, and natural areas – enhances quality of life in cities and towns. The experience of nature improves human health and well-being in many ways. Nearly 40 years of scientific studies tell us how. Join Dr. Kathleen Wolf, a research social scientist out of the University of Washington, as we discuss the mental health benefits we might experience if we spend more time in our green spaces.

Art Across Asia: Masterpieces of the Asian Art Museum

What constitutes a “masterpiece?” Why are some objects considered masterworks while others are relegated to lesser positions? Join Linda Shen Lei to explore some answers as illustrated by a few of the very best treasures of San Francisco’s Asian Art Museum. These are masterworks from the vast and varied regions we collectively call Asia, which stretches from the Mediterranean to the Pacific. Fabulous statues, ancient bronzes, mystic jade, delicate ceramics, and evocative paintings – let them engulf you in their amazing beauty and workmanship.

Local Author Talk: Mai Kim Le

WEDNESDAY, May 4 at 7 PM

Brookline author Mai Kim Le discusses her debut memoir Worlds Apart: My Personal Life Journey through Transcultural Poverty, Privilege & Passion, in conversation with Library Trustee Chris Chanyasulkit. Mai will speak about the process of writing her memoir, how she came to writing, and the importance of creativity and self-expression.

Copies of Worlds Apart will be available for purchase courtesy of Brookline Booksmith, and a book signing will follow the talk. You can read more about Mai Kim Le and Chris Chanyasulkit's work on our website.

This will be a hybrid event, so you can attend in person at the Brookline Village Library or online via Zoom. No registration required for the in-person program. To register for the Zoom webinar, click here.
