Lunar New Year Celebration – 农历新年

FINAL Lunar New Year Bag Labels 2021 (1)
欢迎大家参与我们的网络贺岁活动!从二月起,我们将会在 YouTube 频道上播放农历新年在线故事时间和手工学习视频。别错过呀!

Join us for a virtual Lunar New Year Celebration! Starting on Monday February 1, we’ll be featuring Lunar New Year storytime and craft-along videos on our YouTube Channel. Make sure to check them out here!

Looking to reserve or pick up a Lunar New Year Celebration Kit? Here’s how it works:
  1. Reserve your Lunar New Year Celebration Kit on Eventbrite beginning at 7 PM on Thursday, January 28. These kits are recommended for children ages 5-9 and come with instructions in Chinese and English.
  2. We’ll put your kit(s) on the holdshelf for two weeks, starting Monday, February 1. Just swing by the Library any time during open hours to pick them up.
  3. Whenever you’re ready to celebrate, open your kit and follow the printed instructions or enjoy our Lunar New Year craft-along playlist to create your own noisemaker(s) and paper envelope(s). That’s it. You can keep everything in your kit – no returns necessary.
Didn’t get a kit? You can still celebrate with us! Both of the craft instruction sheets included in the kits are available below, and you can craft along with our Lunar New Year Celebration videos on our YouTube Channel.
Noisemaker craft instructions – 拨浪鼓
Red envelope craft instructions – 春节红包手工

Contactless Pickup Updates

A wireless intercom is attached to the door of the library. Press the Bell button (the top button) to announce your presence to staff, and then hold the TALK button (the bottom button) to tell them your name.
We have recently updated contactless pickup to add an intercom at all Brookline Library locations so that staff and patrons do not have to interact face to face. The process for borrowing materials remains the same: Request materials though our online catalog or by calling or chatting with a librarian, wait until your materials are ready for pickup, and then stop by to get them.

Here's what to expect when you pick up your holds:
  • You can come anytime during our hours! No appointment necessary.
  • You must wear a mask / face covering over your nose and mouth.
  • Press the top (bell) button of the intercom to announce your presence to staff.
  • To respond and tell staff your name, hold the bottom (TALK) button of the intercom.
  • Staff will grab your materials off our holds shelf and check them out for you.
  • Please don’t open the door to retrieve your materials until staff have indicated that everything is ready.
  • Your items will be directly inside the door; you can grab your items and leave.
If you’re homebound or unable to wear a mask, contact Mutual Aid Brookline to pick up your library materials for you. For more information about contactless pickup, please visit our website.

Pop Culture Trivia

FINAL Pop Culture Trivia Soc Med 2021

MONDAY, February 8 at 7 PM

Join us for an entertaining evening of all-ages trivia! We’ll revisit our favorite parts of pop-culture from the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, and 2010s, so there is something for the whole team. Questions are geared for pop culture pros ages 8 and up. This program will be streamed live on our Facebook page.

Some important details for this event: You will need TWO DEVICES in order to enjoy the optimal experience – a computer/smart phone (to view the program on Facebook) and a smart phone or tablet (to play the game). Teams can be comprised of individual or multiple players. Recommended team size is 3-6 players. If members of a team are in separate locations, we suggest arranging a conference call during the game. Each team will use ONLY ONE smart phone or tablet to enter the game and submit the answers.

Children, Tween, & Teen 2020 Book Round Up

FINAL YS Round Up Soc Med Posts 2020 (1)
Now that 2020 has come to a close, we want to know - what were your favorite children's books of the year? Every week through the month of January, take a short poll (it takes about 60 seconds!) at brklib.com/bookvotes and tell us what you think. We'll share the results at the end of January. For our last week of voting, we're focusing on books that make us laugh out loud.

We are celebrating the great books, comics, movies, shows, and games that came out in 2020. This was a difficult year, to say the least, and we are thankful for the art that provided escape and enrichment. Check out our compilation of 2020 titles that librarians loved. We have recommendations for adults, teens, tweens, and kids in all different genres, from bestsellers to hidden gems.

Check out our recommendations!
