June 28 - August 20

Join the 2021 Summer Reading Program with The Public Library of Brookline! After a tough year, we want nothing more than to encourage Brookline to read whatever and however you want – there’s no wrong way to read! The program is open to community members of all ages, from kids through adults. To participate, simply:

1. Sign Up for Summer Reading. Preregistration begins June 15th.

2. Log Your Reading. Track your hours spent reading using your Beanstack account or a paper log available at all our Library locations.

3. Redeem Your Hours for Prizes! Show Library staff your Beanstack account or bring your paper reading log to any Brookline Library to redeem your hours.

Kids, tweens, & teens can read for 20 hours and earn a Base Buddy kit which you can use to create your very own, stuffed-animal “Library-Buddy,” or “Lib-Buddy” for short! Continue reading up to 50 hours to earn extra features and accessories to further personalize your Lib-Buddy!

Adults can read for 20 hours to earn a $1 voucher to the Friends of the Brookline Library Book Sale (many of the books cost $1 or less). Continue reading up to 50 hours to be entered into a grand prize raffle for gift cards to local Brookline businesses!

Celebrate the start of this year’s Tails and Tales Summer Reading Program with our Virtual Animal Encounter with a sea lion or fur seal from the New England Aquarium!

This program is generously sponsored by The Friends of the Brookline Public Library and the Library Trustees.

MONDAY, June 28 at 3 PM

This year's Summer Reading theme is Tails and Tales - and we're celebrating with a virtual encounter with a sea lion or fur seal from the New England Aquarium!

Join the marine mammal trainers from the New England Aquarium for a training session with a California sea lion or northern fur seal. Learn about how they train, why they train, and what you can do to protect the ocean environment for these amazing creatures. You’ll have a chance to see the animals up close (over Zoom) and to ask the trainers your questions. This program is for adults and kids of all ages.

Registration is required. Sign up for the live animal encounter here!

This event is generously sponsored by the Library Trustees.
