UPCOMING EVENTS

Matt Heaton Family Singalong

Matt Heaton Family Singalong

April 27, 2024 11:00 AM @ Brookline Village - Hunneman Hall

Join special performer Matt Heaton for an interactive singalong! This program is for families and kids of all ages but may be most appealing to kids ages 0-5. This will be a thirty minute concert.

We can’t wait to sing along with you!

About the performer: Matt Heaton believes music for kids can be entertaining for both children AND parents. His songs blend mid century American guitar styles: surf, rockabilly, western swing & soul, delivered with a wry sense of humor and a sincere sense of fun. Children and adults respond to his musicianship and variety. The grown ups in the room particularly appreciate the Muppet-esque touches of humor and observations of kid behavior.  Whether you call it children’s music, family music, kindie or toddlerbilly it’s sure to please listeners of all ages.

Sensory Storytime

Sensory Storytime

May 1, 2024 6:30 PM @ Brookline Village - The Rabbit Hole

Join us for Sensory Storytime at 6:30 PM in the Rabbit Hole at the Brookline Village Library. This storytime includes songs, books, and movement activities and will be followed by a free play activity.

Sensory storytime is designed for children who may need extra sensory support or for families who are looking for a more adaptive storytime experience, but all are welcome. This program is suggested for children ages 2-5 and their families, but you can decide if it’s the right fit for your family.

In order to help us keep this program sensory-friendly, it has a limited capacity and free tickets are required to attend. You can pick up a free ticket at the children’s desk beginning 30 minutes before the program.

Please Note: All storytimes include “sensory friendly” practices (e.g. routines, repetition, body breaks/movement, etc.). Our Sensory Storytime, however, includes additional practices such as a smaller group-size, lower lighting, lower music volume, adaptive supports, etc.

To prepare for this program, read our social story about visiting the Library and read our social story specifically about sensory storytime at the Brookline Village Library

First literary crush (author or character): George, King of Thieves, from the Alanna Quartet by Tamora Pierce.
Last song you listened to: A Sorta Fairytale by Tori Amos.
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw. (Some say Ravenpuff, but I stick to Ravenclaw.)
Name a word that starts with the letter Q: Queenly.
Movie or TV show you always watch when it comes on screen, no matter what: The Hunt for Red October (and I can quote it line by line.)
If you could travel back in time, what period would you go to? Perhaps the 1920s, but modern medicine makes the present pretty great.
Cake or pie? Cake.
Big dogs or small dogs? Cats, always.
Hardcover or paperback? Hardcover.
Fictional world or game you'd most like to visit? The London of the Rivers of London series by Ben Aaronovitch (but only if I can hang out with Peter Grant.)
What book would you most like to see turned into a top-notch film or miniseries? Connie Willis's time travel novels, from Doomsday Book to To Say Nothing of the Dog to Black Out/All Clear. Miniseries or one book per season series, please!
Favorite fictional librarian? Evie Carnahan from The Mummy series or Lucien, the Chief Librarian of the Dreaming in Neil Gaiman's Sandman.
Favorite Jane Austen character? Anne from Persuasion. (Best. Letter. Ever.)
