Ezekiel’s Wheels Klezmer Concert

Join Kirsten, Nat, and Pete from Ezekiel’s Wheels Klezmer Band for an evening of klezmer music and Yiddish song! For adults and kids of all ages. Dancing and singing along are both welcome.

Expanded Hours at Putterham
|

We are pleased to announce that the Putterham Library will be expanding its open hours. On Fridays and Saturdays, Putterham will now be opening at 9:30 AM. For our full Library hours, please visit our website.

Battle of the Pumpkins
|
|
This Halloween, we invite you to cast your vote in our Battle of the Pumpkins. Each year, we hold a competition amongst the staff to pick a character or story and present them in pumpkin form at each of our service desks--and you get to choose the winner. We'll be announcing the winners tomorrow, November 1, so you have until the stroke of midnight to cast your vote.

Interested in creative writing? Join us at the Putterham Library for our new weekly Tween Creative Writing Program! We’ll have snacks, discuss stories, and do prompts and free writing. This program is drop in; no registration required. For tweens in grades 5-8.

D&D is now starting for teens! Meet in the Brookline Village Library Tween room.
|
This program is for new and seasoned players alike. Join us on the hunt for treasure as we play through the Waterdeep: Dragon Heist campaign. For the first session on November 3, the Dungeon Master will walk through character creation and the basic rules of the game. Limit to 10 participants per session. For teens in grades 8-12 only. This session is in person but Eventbrite registration is still required.

Welcome Blanket Brookline

|
Calling all Brookline knitters, quilters, crocheters, sewers, and crafters! Welcome Blanket, a national craftivism project, asks participants to create blankets and notes of welcome to give to immigrants and refugees. A Brookline-based Welcome Blanket knitting circle comes together each month to create and talk about immigration. All levels of crafting ability welcomed. Please bring your materials to work on. Join career consultant Gary Gekow for an informative workshop on Tips for a Successful Virtual Interview! Prior to COVID-19 many companies were implementing phone and video interviews as part of their hiring process. Now virtual interviews are becoming commonplace. This Zoom workshop will address many topics including ideal locations and conditions for conducting the interview, the importance of body language, technology overviews, appropriate dress codes, and strategies to build confidence.

Turkey Town Film Screening and Q&A

Wild turkeys are everywhere! The population has exploded in Massachusetts in recent years, to the point where wild turkeys have made their homes in our suburbs and cities. Their presence has had a polarizing effect on our community—some welcome them, others would prefer they disappear. Turkey Town is a documentary short that explains the comeback of the wild turkey population in Massachusetts and explores the social and environmental consequences, both positive and negative, of their return.

The Library is delighted to present a screening of Turkey Town, followed by a Q&A with local filmmaker Aynsley Floyd and ornithologist and author Scott Weidensaul.

On Display at the Library
|
|
|
|
|
A Year Above the Gardens: This unique photography project is the work of John Rich, a long-time Brookline resident, professional photographer, and artist. It consists of 22 photographs of the Community Gardens at Larz Anderson Park, shot with a camera-drone. On display through December 29. The artist will host an opening reception on Saturday, November 5, from 2:30 to 4:30 PM.

The Bay State: A Multicultural Landscape: Mark Chester’s powerful photographs create a visual archive that celebrates the broad diversity of Massachusetts’ citizens, who hail from most of the 195 countries and territories around the globe. Join the artist for a closing reception of his exhibit on Thursday, November 3, from 2:30-4:30.
