The Zine Scene

Zines are micro-magazines that are self-published, small editions, produced by artists, writers, and fans of personally chosen content. Join members of the New England Book Artists for hands-on zine making at The Zine Scene workshop! Learn tips and tricks for spontaneous zine making. All skill levels welcome, and all materials provided.

Meet the Brookline Pollinator Pathway

TUESDAY, October 24 at 7 PM

Would you like to learn about ways to support local pollinators like bees, birds, and butterflies? Meet the Brookline Pollinator Pathway, a collaboration between Mothers Out Front, the Brookline Garden Club, Brookline teachers, and community members that is working to provide habitat for pollinator species around town.

At this program, members of the Brookline Pollinator Pathway will speak about their work, the importance of native plants, and how we can help pollinators. Then everyone will have a chance to get planting with a take-home activity to grow native plants.

Graphic Novel Group

THURSDAY, October 26 at 6:30 PM

Come join us and read the latest and greatest in graphic novels. From familiar chestnuts to new future classics, from big name writers and artists to up-and-comers, from manga to superheroes to artsy indie comix and everything in between – if it’s got sequential art in it, we’ll read it! All are welcome and all graphic novels are welcome too. Copies of the first title, The Low, Low Woods, are available at the Brookline Village Circulation Desk.

Drop-In Math Tutoring

WEDNESDAY, October 25 at 3 PM

For tweens and teens in grades 5 through 12 – stop by the tween room on Wednesday afternoons for math help from students just like you! Tutoring is provided by SkillBuild, a student-led, education non-profit that offers free peer tutoring and learning resources.

Tween Crafternoon: Haunted Terrariums

THURSDAY, October 26 at 3 PM

Spend an afternoon crafting in the Tween Room. Make a spooky haunted miniature terrarium, filled with ghosts, monsters, and scares galore! For tweens in grades 5-7 only. No registration required. As supplies last.

Coffee Filter Parachutes

Join Sherry Eskin as we play with physics. Today, we’re constructing parachutes for different plastic animals. Does a bigger parachute work better than a smaller one? Together we will discover and have fun! For ages 3 – 5. Limited to 20 kids. Tickets available at the Children’s Desk beginning a half hour before the program.

Faroles/Lantern Workshop for Kids

Join us for a lantern workshop! Rosalba Solis of La Piñata will tell the story behind faroles and guide everyone through the process of making their own lantern. Our intended audience for this program is kids ages 5-13 and their caregivers. Spots for this program will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
