Classic Literature Reading Group

Have you always wanted to explore classic literature but never had a chance to read it in a class? Or maybe you want to revisit titles you read when you were in school. Here’s your chance! Guided by Professor David Green, the Classic Literature Reading Group will delve into the work of three renowned writers, with plenty of time for discussion, analysis, and questions.

The schedule of the Classic Literature  Reading Group is as follows. All meetings will take place on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM.

November 1: Machiavelli’s The Prince

November 15: Montaigne’s Essays: “To the Reader,” “On Educating Children,” “That It Is Madness to Judge the True and False from Our Own Capacities.”

November 29: Montaigne’s Essays: “On the Cannibals,” “On the Inconstancy of Our Actions,” and “On Repenting.”

December 13: Shakespeare’s Hamlet acts I, II, and III

December 20: Shakespeare’s Hamlet acts IV and V

The readings can all be accessed through the Library. Copies will be held at the front Circulation Desk at the Brookline Village Library – just stop by and ask to check them out.

We request that participants read the selections in advance of each session. Sign up here to receive additional information and materials in advance of the meetings. Registration is encouraged, but drop-ins are also welcome.

About the facilitator: David Green is a novelist and former Senior Lecturer in the Core Curriculum and Writing Program at Boston University.
