Storytimes and Play Programs
The Library offers exciting storytime programs in English for children ages 0 to 5 and numerous World Language storytimes. We also offer play-based programs for ages 0-4 that encourage fine and gross motor skill development and social interaction. Please check out our events calendar for more information about each individual program.
Building for Babies and Toddlers
This program is a thirty minute drop-in program that uses various types of blocks and building materials to encourage fine and gross motor skill development and social interaction. This program is intended for kids ages 0 to 4, their caregivers, and their siblings. The Library runs this program at the Brookline Village Library on Thursday Mornings at 10:30 AM. Tickets are not required for this program.
Babytime
This storytime is a twenty to thirty minute interactive program that encourages bonding between caregivers and their infants. Rhymes, songs, bounces, props, and books are presented with a focus on repetition to encourage early literacy practices for infants and their families. This is a lapsit program designed for children who are not yet walking and attentive caregivers. The Library runs this program at our Brookline Village location on Tuesdays at 10:30 AM. There is a limited capacity, so please stop by the Children’s Room desk for a storytime ticket.
Mother Goose on the Loose
This storytime is a thirty minute, interactive program that uses repetition, rhymes, songs, props, and books to build early literacy skills in babies and toddlers. Children between the ages of six and twenty-four months benefit the most from this program, along with an attentive caregiver. The Library runs this program at our Brookline Village location on Mondays at 10:30 AM There is a limited capacity, so please stop by the Children’s Room desks for a storytime ticket. One and Two Year-Old Storytime
This storytime is a thirty minute, interactive program that uses repetition, rhymes, songs, props, and books to build early literacy skills. This lapsit program is limited to children ages 1 and 2, their caregivers, and their siblings. The Library runs this program at our Coolidge Corner location at 10:15 on Wednesdays. There is a limited capacity, so please stop at the Service Desk for a storytime ticket.
Playspace
This program is a thirty minute session of free play and social development. This program is intended for kids ages 1 to 4, their caregivers, and their siblings. The Library runs this program at Coolidge Corner on Thursdays at 10:15 AM.
Storytime for Twos and Threes
This storytime is a thirty minute, interactive program that uses songs, felt stories, and books to build early literacy skills. This program is limited to children ages 2 to 3, their caregivers, and their siblings. The Library runs this program at our Brookline Village location on Wednesdays at 10:30 AM and at 11:15 AM; and at Coolidge Corner on Tuesdays at 10:15 AM; There is a limited capacity, so please stop by the Children’s Room desks for a storytime ticket.
Storytime for Three to Five Year-Olds
This storytime is a thirty minute, interactive program that uses songs, puppets, felt stories, and books to build early literacy skills and a love of reading. This program is limited to children ages 3 to 5, their caregivers, and their siblings. The Library runs this program at our Coolidge Corner location on Mondays at 10:15 AM. There is a limited capacity, so please stop by the Children’s Room desks for a storytime ticket.
World Language Storytimes
The Library is pleased to partner with dedicated community members to offer storytimes in multiple languages. All of our world language storytimes are conducted fully in their designated language. The Library currently offers storytimes in French, Hebrew, Mandarin, Japanese, and Taiwanese. World Language storytimes may be virtual or in person, so read more about these programs on our events calendar.

Every week, the Library hosts a fun variety of after-school programs designed to engage kids ages 5 to 9. Check out our full list of programs on our events calendar!
Dragonflies: Graphic Novel Book Club
This book club meets twice a month on Tuesday afternoons from 3 to 3:45PM.. Patrons will read the same book and discuss it at the meeting. An activity relating to the book will be offered along with the discussion. This program is for kids in grades 1 through 4 and requires registration. Registration opens seasonally and you can visit our Eventbrite page to register.
Girls Who Code – Grades 3 to 6

Kids RPG Club
This club is a registration-based roleplaying group where kids will learn about role playing games by creating characters, going on adventures, and telling stories together. This program encourages creativity and social emotional learning This group meets twice a month on Tuesdays from 4 to 4:45PM at our Brookline Village location. This program is intended for kids ages 5-9 and requires registration. Registration opens seasonally and you can visit our Eventbrite page to register.
Leapfrogs: 3rd and 4th Grade Book Club
This book club meets twice a month on Tuesday afternoons from 3:45 to 4:30 PM at Brookline Village. Patrons will read the same book and discuss it at the meeting. An activity relating to the book will be offered along with the discussion. This program is only for kids in grades 3 and 4 and requires registration. Registration opens seasonally and you can visit our Eventbrite page to register.
Lego Club
This program is a drop-in, forty-five minute program where kids are encouraged to free-build their ideas with the Library’s Legos or complete the weekly challange. This program is intended for kids ages 5 to 9, but siblings may attend along with caregivers. The Library runs Lego Club at our Brookline Village location on Thursdays at 3:00 PM and 3:35 PM and at Coolidge Corner on Tuesdays at 3:15 PM.
Craft Club
This program is a drop-in, hour-long program where we provide basic craft supplies and kids provide the ideas for their own projects or the weekly craft! You never know what you might make. This program is intended for kids ages 5 to 9, but siblings may attend along with caregivers. The Library runs Craft Club at our Brookline Village location on Monday from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
Pokemon League
This club meets every Thursday at 5 PM at Coolidge Corner. This program is sponsored by New England Comics, and everyone is welcome! We face off, trade cards, and discuss tricks of the trade. This program is for kids of all ages who love Pokemon.
Pollywogs: 1st and 2nd Grade Book Club

Display Cases
Fill our display cases in both the Children’s and Teen Rooms at Brookline Village with your collections or artwork! LEGO’s, bracelets, rock collections, painted art, and more have all been displayed in our cases over the years. There are two cases for kids and one case plus multiple frames for teens, so there is plenty of room to share your passion. Fill out our Display Case Request Form to get your name and display idea added to our waitlist!
Early Literacy Calendars
Every month, we put together a calendar full of ideas and activities to help practice early literacy skills with your little ones. Each week is focused on a different theme and includes suggestions of how to Sing, Talk, Read, Write, and Play together to get your child(ren) ready to read!
