The Brookline Library Foundation

The Brookline Library Foundation

Founded in 1999, the Brookline Library Foundation’s initial goal was to raise private funds for the restoration of the Brookline Village location of the Public Library of Brookline. The Foundation raised more than $5 million for that renovation and continues to raise capital for all three Brookline libraries. Our funds have supported innovative programs, books and materials, museum passes, new technology and enhancements to our buildings. In addition to conducting an annual appeal, each year we recruit community members to run the Boston Marathon as part of Team Brookline, where those runners raise needed funds for the Brookline Library Foundation and 4 other Brookline non-profits.

Our recent projects include:

  • Subscription services like Hoopla, Kanopy and Libby and expanded funding ($50K+) to increase access due to high demand
  • Funding and support for the Library of Things and ideaSPACE providing tools and instruction (3D printing, laser cutting, graphics creation, and more!)
  • Storytimes for children in eight languages
  • Funding for Maker Mondays, Crafternoons, and afterschool activities for kids
  • Chromebooks and wifi hotspots available for checkout at all libraries
  • Multigenerational cultural celebrations
  • Digital signage, including the TransitScreen TVs displaying local transportation data
  • A major contribution (500K+) to the 2018 Coolidge Corner Renovation
  • Museum, recreation and nature preserve passes providing discounts
  • Redesign of outdoor garden space at the Putterham Library in 2017 and Brookline Village Library in 2021
