How Do I Donate Books?
What can you donate?
The Friends of the Brookline Library accept donations of books and other materials-including CDs, DVDs, audio books, LPs, magazines, video games, and board games-in good condition. Items that are in poor or damaged condition (missing covers; brittle, loose, or missing pages; signs of mold or mildew; strong odors; missing pieces; scratched discs; etc.), textbooks more than five years old, or items otherwise deemed to be unusable will not be accepted.
Where should donations be dropped off?
Small donations (one grocery bag or less) may be dropped off at the Brookline Village Library circulation desk during regular Library hours. All donations may be dropped off at the loading dock at the rear of the Brookline Village Library (off School Street) at any time. If you require assistance or need a tax receipt, please stop by between 9 AM and 4 PM on a regular weekday and ring the bell. Please do not drop large amounts of items at the circulation desk, and do not place any in the book drops. Email email@example.com for information about pickups.
What happens to these materials?
The vast majority is sold in the Friends Book Sale. Of the remaining items, most are donated to local charities and a small percentage are sold online through an independent agent, from whom the Friends receive a percentage of the final sale price.
