English Language Learners
The Public Library of Brookline offers a variety of services and resources to support Brookline’s English Language Learners (ELL). To learn more about our ELL services, read about our programs below or write to our ELL coordinators at firstname.lastname@example.org.
ELL Summer Series: Grammar and Games
Join us for the ELL Summer Series, Grammar and Games – 6 sessions to practice English grammar in a fun way. We will review grammar concepts (simple present tense, simple past tense, pronouns, and action verbs) and play games to practice.
This group is for beginners and advanced beginners. Students should know the alphabet and be able to read, hear, and speak simple words and simple phrases.
Grammar and Games will meet at the Brookline Village Library for 6 Tuesdays, July 12 – August 16 from 11 AM-12 PM. Registration is required. Sign-up will open on Friday July 1 at 10 AM. Please note, that we will not be able to accommodate children or strollers due to the space constraints.
The English Club is an informal conversation group that is open to adult learners of all levels. This program meets on the ground floor of the Brookline Village Library on Fridays at 11 AM . English Club is drop-in, so you can attend whenever you like. New members are always welcome!
ELL Film Group
Practice your English language skills as we gather online to watch short films together and engage in virtual discussion. This group is open to all English Language Learners but will be geared towards intermediate and advanced speakers. The more, the merrier – grab a snack and join us! Learn more about this group.
Dedicated collections of books for English Language Learners are available at all library locations, including language-learning books and test prep for the TOEFL and U.S. Citizenship exams. We also offer ELL Kits, tote bags of materials to borrow on themes like Brookline & Boston, Family Reading, and Exploring Nature. Just ask a librarian about our ELL collection!
The Public Library of Brookline offers a tutoring program for adult language learners. Students meet with volunteer tutors one hour a week for six months.
