Improvement Projects at Brookline Village Library

There are a variety of building improvements underway at the Brookline Village Library this month as we re-carpet our Youth Services Rooms on the Ground Level.
  • The Tween Room will be closed for carpeting Monday, April 27 - Wednesday, April 29.
  • The Teen Room will be closed for carpeting on Thursday, April 30 - Friday, May 1st.
Access to some collections and Youth Services areas may be restricted during recarpeting - see signage and check our homepage for updates.

Happening this Week

Relationship Trading Cards (with REACH and Brookline DPH)

Brookline Village
Monday, April 27, 3:30 PM to 5 PM
Come to The Teen Room to try and create your ideal partner by trading characteristics cards with other teens! Learn from REACH Beyond Domestic Violence and the Brookline Department of Public Health about what constitutes a healthy relationship and about the correlation between alcohol and instances of sexual assault.

Intro to Budgeting for Teens

Wednesday, April 29, 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM
This one hour program with Jon from CFA Society Boston will give teens an overview of best budgeting practices and personal finance.

BiblioQuilt Artist Talk with Larry Clifford

Brookline Village
Thursday, April 30, 6 PM to 7 PM
Join artist Larry Clifford as he closes out his two month exhibit in Hunneman Hall. He will describe the process he uses when creating a BiblioQuilt, show several samples, and demonstrate part of his technique.

Matt Heaton Family Singalong

Join local performer Matt Heaton for an interactive program featuring guitar, singing, and silliness! This program is recommended for ages 0 – 5, but kids and families of all ages are welcome! Tickets for this session can be picked up on a first come, first served basis at the children’s desk starting at 10 AM.

Crochet Club

Friday, May 1, 3 PM to 3:45 PM
Kids, tweens, and teens are all welcome at Crochet Club! Each time we meet we will review crochet basics and learn something new. No registration required, and we always welcome new members, no matter what skill level! Supplies will be provided.

Puppet Storytime with Leigh Baltzar

Saturday, May 2, 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM
Join Newton and his puppet friends for stories and songs, followed by a brief demo of various puppet styles by Leigh. The show is geared to ages 3-7, but all are welcome! Get your free ticket at the Children's Desk 30 minutes prior to the event.

Watercolor Challah with Laurel Greenfield

Brookline Village
Monday, May 4, 7 PM to 8 PM
Join local artist Laurel Greenfield for a guided watercolor workshop in celebration of Jewish American Heritage Month! This program is for adults and teens in grades 8-12. Registration is required.

Visible Mending

Brookline Village
Wednesday, May 6, 6:30 PM to 8 PM
Join us with Mariko Sugimori of Zoe & Mona Mending for an introduction to basic mending techniques that are also fun and artistic like patching, darning, and sewing a button. This is a beginner friendly class, and all materials will be provided. Attendance is limited to 20 participants on a first come, first served basis.

LED Mini Golf with One Up Games

Coolidge Corner
Thursday, May 7, 1 PM to 4 PM
Join One Up Games for a 9-hole LED Mini Golf course! Each hole glows with different color LEDs, including LED golf balls.
This program is open to all ages.

Let's Make Kawaii Bento Together!

Thursday, May 7, 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM
Instructors from Wa-Shokuiku - Table for Two teach you how to shape rice into critters, tomatoes into hearts, mini hot dogs into octopi, and arrange them all into a healthy and delicious meal in your very own bento box. This program is for kids ages 8+ and tweens. Space is limited and registration is required.

Helping Endangered Animals with Joys of Nature - Session 1 and Session 2

Session 1: 2 PM to 2:30 PM | Session 2: 4 PM to 4:30 PM
Learn about endangered species in the wild here in New England, and around the world, and some things we can all do to help them. Don’t miss meeting some of their animal relatives up close and personal! These two sessions are identical.

News and Notes

Terracotta Pot Drive for
Community Crafting!

Spring cleaning? Drop by the Coolidge Corner Library or the Brookline Village Library children's room to donate your old plant pots! We are accepting new and gently used terracotta pots of any size (clean and ready for use, free of dirt and debris). Items with chips or light wear are welcome.

Collection begins on Monday, May 4 and runs until Monday, June 8. Then join us to transform our pots at our Coolidge Corner summer reading kickoff and all-ages crafting event on Friday, June 12!
