Drag Queen Story Hour
|

Join the fabulous queens from the Boston chapter of Drag Queen Story Hour for a family storytime! Free storytime tickets will be required for entry to the event; please pick up a ticket from the service desk starting thirty minutes before the program.
|
Drag Queen Story Hour is a program for children ages 3–8 that raises awareness of gender diversity, promotes self-acceptance, and builds empathy through an enjoyable literary experience. It will be led by local Boston drag queens who will sing songs and read picture books. For more information on Drag Queen Story Hour, visit their website.

Pollinator Garden
|
|
|
We are delighted to announce a new addition to the Brookline Village Library landscape: a pollinator pathway! Earlier this month, Mothers Out Front planted a pollinator garden on the Public Library of Brookline’s front lawn. They worked in collaboration with the Brookline Garden Club, Brookline DPW, and of course the Public Library of Brookline. This garden contains native flowering plants to cater to all of our pollinating insects and birds.

Become a Volunteer English Tutor!
|
|
|
|
The Public Library of Brookline is seeking volunteers for the one-on-one tutoring program! Our English Language Tutoring program for adults matches volunteer English speakers with English language learners for weekly practice sessions. No teaching experience or world language knowledge is necessary, and we will provide online training and tutoring resources.
If you are curious about other cultures and can commit to a weekly one-hour language practice session for five months, consider becoming a volunteer English language tutor at the Public Library of Brookline.

STEAM Storytime: Bubbles!

Join Miss Macy for a special STEAM Storytime all about bubbles. We’ll learn about the science behind bubbles, read stories, and make our own bubble wands! Then we’ll move outdoors to blow some bubbles – big and small! This program is recommended for ages 3 and up. Free tickets will be required for this program. Tickets will be available at the Children’s Desk starting at 3:30 PM.

Rainbow Playdough Making

Join us as we make rainbow playdough! Attendees will get to make three different colors of their choice, and a take-home recipe for future playdough making. For ages 5 and up and their caretakers. Tickets will be available at the Children’s Desk one hour before the program. Limited to 12 patrons.

Raising Our Voices with Storyteller Davis Bates

Experience the talented storyteller Davis Bates as he shares songs and stories about empowerment and imagination from a variety of cultural traditions. Hear about a brave parrot; how coyote got his howl; and be prepared to sing, move, and clap your hands. The program will include plenty of sing-alongs, as well as a short lesson in how to play the spoons, and an appearance by an Irish dancing wooden dog named Bingo. Kids and families of all ages will enjoy his performance, but we recommend it for ages 3 and up. This program will be held outdoors on the Town Hall side Library Lawn; in case of inclement weather, it will be held in Hunneman Hall.

Concert Series: The History of Cello Music

SATURDAYS, July 8, 15, & 22 at 3 PM

The Library is pleased to present a series of classical cello concerts. Cellist Ji Young Lee and pianist Soyoung Sarah Yang will perform three concerts that feature cello music written from 1700 to 2000. Each concert will be devoted to a certain era of music, with the series featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Debussy, Ligeti, Piazzolla, and Demenga, as well as comments on the music and Q&A sessions.

The History of Cello Music will take place at 3 PM on three consecutive Saturdays – July 8, 15, and 22. This series is open to adults and children of all ages. Get acquainted with craftivism, learn to embroider, stitch something brilliant, and make friends—all in just two hours!

Craft-based activism has been used as a tool of resistance, coalition building, and even espionage! Learn from Shannon Downey—a leader in the modern craftivism movement. She will provide an introduction to the history of craftivism and ways you can get involved in the modern movement. Shannon will then teach you how to embroider and have you stabbing it out in no time. She guarantees you walk away feeling better than when you arrived.
