UPCOMING EVENTS

May 11, 2024 10:30 AM @ Putterham - Meeting Room |
|
Do animals get earaches?
Sore throats? Stomach aches?
Who helps them if they can’t talk?
Meet the author and illustrator of Dr. Rosie Helps the Animals, an award-winning STEM picture book based on and informed by real-world veterinarians. Jennifer, the author, and Rozillia, the illustrator, will first tell the story behind the story of Dr. Rosie and then engage kids in an interactive reading.
Following the reading will be a hands-on activity where kids (and their grownups) diagnose and treat a stuffy. Each participant will receive a mini vet kit and diagnostic/treatment sheet to take home. Alternatively, Jennifer and Rozillia can lead kids through hands-on experiments related to the book.
What Else?
Kids should bring their own stuffy. Mini stuffed animals will be provided for any kid who needs one. There will be a limit of 30 kits. More than 30 kids can attend, but kits are limited. This program is ideal for young people ages 4-8. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase. Proceeds are directed to a veterinary scholarship fund.
Attendance is limited to 30; admission will be on a first come/first served basis.
We offer this program in honor of National Pet Month, May 2024.

Join us for the fun, family-friendly show “Traditions of Chinese Acrobatics” with Li Liu! She will perform hand balancing, plate spinning, ribbon dancing, diabolos, and foot juggling. A limited number of volunteers will have the opportunity to join her on stage to create an impromptu ribbon dance, and also to try their hand at plate spinning. Educational connections are made with the Chinese language and culture. Li explains some of the rituals of Lunar New Year, teaches the audience some basic Chinese phrases, and encourages them to think about what it might have been like to grow up in a different time and place.
This program is aimed at kids of all ages and their families, but all are welcome. Free tickets are required and will be available at the Children’s Desk a half hour before the program begins.

May 15, 2024 6:30 PM @ Brookline Village - The Rabbit Hole |
|
Join us for Sensory Storytime at 6:30 PM in the Rabbit Hole at the Brookline Village Library. This storytime includes songs, books, and movement activities and will be followed by a free play activity. For this special program, we’ll be joined by a fellow from the Autism Spectrum Center at Boston Children’s Hospital who will serve as a special guest reader and be available as an informal resource for parents following the program.
Sensory storytime is designed for neurodiverse children who may need extra sensory support or for families who are looking for a more adaptive storytime experience, but all are welcome. This program is suggested for children ages 2-7 and their families, but you can decide if it’s the right fit for your family.
In order to help us keep this program sensory-friendly, it has a limited capacity and free tickets are required to attend. You can pick up a free ticket at the children’s desk beginning 30 minutes before the program.
Please Note: All storytimes include “sensory friendly” practices (e.g. routines, repetition, body breaks/movement, etc.). Our Sensory Storytime, however, includes additional practices such as a smaller group-size, lower lighting, lower music volume, adaptive supports, etc.
To prepare for this program, read our social story about visiting the Library and read our social story specifically about sensory storytime at the Brookline Village Library

Join special performer Matt Heaton for an interactive singalong! This program is for families and kids of all ages but may be most appealing to kids ages 0-5. This will be a thirty minute concert.
We can’t wait to sing along with you!
About the performer: Matt Heaton believes music for kids can be entertaining for both children AND parents. His songs blend mid century American guitar styles: surf, rockabilly, western swing & soul, delivered with a wry sense of humor and a sincere sense of fun. Children and adults respond to his musicianship and variety. The grown ups in the room particularly appreciate the Muppet-esque touches of humor and observations of kid behavior. Whether you call it children’s music, family music, kindie or toddlerbilly it’s sure to please listeners of all ages.
