Back to the Library Night

Brookline Village Library

WEDNESDAY, September 13 at 6:30 PM

You’re back to school, now it’s time to come back to the library! Whether you’re a library pro or it’s your first time at the Public Library of Brookline, stop by the Brookline Village Library Tween Room between 6:30 and 8 PM to learn more about Library programs and services. Library staff will be on hand to answer all your questions. There will be read-alouds, activity stations, prizes, snacks, and information galore!

This event is for kids and families of all ages!

Saturday Snacks: Popcorn Tasting

Putterham Library

SATURDAY, September 16 at 10:30 AM

Join us at the Putterham Library for a special popcorn tasting event as part of our Saturday Snacks series! Between 10:30 and 11:30 AM as supplies last, drop in to the Meeting Room and you’ll be given five different popcorn flavors to taste. Can you guess which flavor is which? Those who get it right will be entered into a raffle and each winner gets to take home a bag of popcorn!

Fall Children's Program

School is back in session, and so is our fall lineup of ongoing programs for kids, tweens, and teens. We have a full calendar of returning favorites like storytimes and crafternoons – plus new additions from Babytime to Craft Club for kids to Homework Club for teens and tweens. Sort, Share, Sell, and Store with Jamie Novak

TUESDAY, September 12 at 7 PM

Can’t walk in your walk-in closet? Do you dread sorting your clothes? Join us over Zoom and learn the five steps to organize any closet with expert organizer and author Jamie Novak. She’ll share her insider tips and the things every closet needs to stay clutter free.

Pint Size Yoga

Brookline Village Library

SATURDAY, September 16 at 11 AM

Join us for Pint Size Yoga with Carol Kagan! Little ones will be guided through stretching, breathing, and age-appropriate yoga poses along with dancing and games. Yoga will be incorporated in every activity. Small yoga mats are provided. Child-only participation is encouraged, though parents and caregivers are asked to stay in the room. This program is for kids ages 3-6 only.

Girls Who Code Club

Brookline Village Library

Starts MONDAY, September 18 at 6:30 PM

Girls Who Code is a national nonprofit organization leading the movement to inspire, educate and equip girls with the computing skills to pursue 21st-century opportunities. The Library's Girls Who Code club is starting up for the year on Monday, September 18, and this year we have groups for grades 3-6 and grades 7-12!

Author Event: Sara Johnson Allen and Namrata Patel

TUESDAY, September 19 at 7 PM

Join local authors Sara Johnson Allen and Namrata Patel as they read from their new novels. In Patel’s Scent of a Garden, a perfumer in Paris is forced to return to her California roots to find that her grandmother’s aromatic garden has been uprooted and destroyed. In Allen’s Down Here We Come Up, a daughter leaves Boston greenhouses for the eastern North Carolina farms, and rebuilds an agricultural independence with a new kush crop. In both summer releases, a woman follows her senses – and her senses lead her home. The books will be available to purchase at the event, and the authors will sign copies.

WEDNESDAY, September 20 at 3 PM

We’re excited to be celebrating a book birthday with author Louise Hare! Her new book, Harlem After Midnight, just came out on August 29 and is a must read for anyone who loves historical fiction, mysteries, and jazz music from the 1930s. Louise is joining us from “across the pond” – so BYOT (bring your own tea) for this special Q&A.

UnEarthed - C. J. Lori is a Brookline oil painter whose work encompasses realism, magical realism, and surrealism. As an avid traveler, her paintings depict images of the landscape that she wants to capture forever. On display through October 30.
Brookline Village Library
Art from Inside - Prison Books Program has been sending packages of free, hand-selected books to people in prisons and jails across the country for 51 years. Art from Inside is a curated selection of works that PBP’s readers and requestors have sent to them over the course of many decades. On display through October 30.

Brookline Arts Center Showcase - The Brookline Arts Center is proud to present a vibrant and diverse group exhibition that brings together the work of three of its faculty members – Aria Carpenter, Nanette Pengelley, and Robbie Moser – alongside the work of talented BAC students. On display through September 29.

Photo Album Display & Past Days at the Library - Special Collections presents a pair of displays featuring photographs. Explore some of the photographs the library has collected within its own walls over the years, as well as photo albums in our collection. On display through October 15.
