Coolidge Corner Library

TUESDAY, September 19 at 7 PM

Join local authors Sara Johnson Allen and Namrata Patel as they read from their new novels. In Patel’s Scent of a Garden, a perfumer in Paris is forced to return to her California roots to find that her grandmother’s aromatic garden has been uprooted and destroyed. In Allen’s Down Here We Come Up, a daughter leaves Boston greenhouses for the eastern North Carolina farms, and rebuilds an agricultural independence with a new kush crop. In both summer releases, a woman follows her senses – and her senses lead her home. The books will be available to purchase at the event, and the authors will sign copies.

Lotus Lantern Workshop

Brookline Village Library

WEDNESDAY, September 27 at 7 PM

Join us as we make our own Lotus Lanterns, led by the Korean Spirit and Culture Promotion Project. The lotus grows in a swamp or pond, but is not tainted by the mud and has a clear and subtle fragrance. This natural characteristic has been used as a symbol of purity, nobility, and sublimity. With those characteristics, who wouldn’t want to make one?

This program is limited to 50 adult attendees. Tickets will be available at the Reference Desk a half hour before the program begins.
