Library Closed for Indigenous Peoples Day

All Public Library of Brookline locations will be closed Monday, October 9 for Indigenous Peoples Day. Regular hours will resume Tuesday, October 10.

Mid-Autumn Festival Celebration – 中秋節慶祝活動

SATURDAY, October 15 from 2-4 PM

Celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival with the Public Library of Brookline, outdoors!
Join us at Winthrop Square Park from 2-4 PM on Sunday, October 15. We'll have lantern decorating, a lantern parade, calligraphy, delicious snacks, and more!

If you’d like to help at this special event, we would love to have you! Complete this Mid-Autumn Festival volunteer application for the opportunity to help out as a volunteer event staffer.

Draw Like a Pro with the Brookline Arts Center

Brookline Village Library

SATURDAY, October 7 at 2 PM

Draw what you see and see what you draw! In this introductory-level workshop, students will learn the essentials of drawing technique – specifically drawing from observation and reality. Using graphite to its fullest extent, students will learn simple, effective strategies for observing and drawing that can be carried into any kind of visual art. This workshop is open to all adults. No registration necessary; as supplies last.

Gentle Chair Yoga with Keith Beasley

Putterham Library & Virtual

FRIDAYS at 10:30 AM

Gentle Yoga is back! Join us in person or on Zoom for drop-in Gentle Yoga with Keith Beasley. The class is designed for those seeking improved strength, flexibility, and balance, with gentle movements and gently performed yoga postures. The class will be done seated in a chair with some optional standing. No registration necessary to attend in person. If you are attending virtually, you can register for Gentle Chair Yoga here.

Zine Scene Exhibit Reception at Coolidge Corner - Saturday, October 7 at 2 PM - New England Book Artists share four years of their annual Zine Swaps in an exhibit at the Coolidge Corner Library this October and November. This hands-on reception will give attendees a chance read the collections and meet some of NEBA’s zinesters.

Afro-Cuban Music and Poetry at Coolidge Corner - Thursday, October 12 at 7 PM - Northeastern University professor and scholar of Latin American Studies Alan West-Durán will guide us on a journey through the poetry of Nicolás Guillén (1902-1989).

A Conversation with Meredith Broussard, Author of More Than a Glitch - Tuesday, October 17 at 7 PM, virtual - “When technology reinforces inequality, it’s not just a glitch—it’s a signal that we need to redesign our systems to create a more equitable world.” Join us for a conversation with Meredith Broussard, author of More than a Glitch: Confronting Race, Gender, and Ability Bias in Tech. Celebrate the freedom to read during Banned Books Week! Give your support to authors whose works are being banned across the country by writing them a letter in support, and learn more about Banned Books Week. All materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your own as well!

Songs with Seth

Coolidge Corner Library

WEDNESDAY, October 4 at 10:30 AM

Let’s share music together! Join local children’s musician Mr. Seth for an interactive family sing-along jam-session. Dance, sing, and play along with instruments for everyone. Recommended ages 0-5. Stay tuned for more singalongs and children's concerts coming up this fall!

Tallest Tower Challenge

Brookline Village Library

FRIDAY, October 6 at 2 PM

Come show off your construction skills! Working alone or in teams, builders will be given cardboard, popsicle sticks, cardboard screws, and tape to build the tallest creation they can. Prizes will be given for the tallest tower! This is a drop in program for ages 5-9, although space may be limited due to room capacity. How tall will you build?
