An Update from the Friends
|
|
One of the Friends' main sources of income is from their ongoing book sales at all three branches. The book sale funds many Library programs, including Summer Reading! Looking to donate books? You can bring book donations to any Brookline Library location—just make sure they are in decent condition, since we cannot accept damaged or dirty materials. Learn more about donating books here.

Library Closed for Staff Development Day

All Public Library of Brookline locations will be closed Wednesday, July 19, for staff development. Regular hours will resume Thursday, July 20.

Stop by the Rabbit Hole anytime between 4-5 PM for a fun and sparkly arts and crafts program for kids and their families. Decorate some recycled CDs at the Library, take them home, hang them up in the sunlight, and watch them dazzle! This program is recommended for ages 3 and up.

Meet us outside on the Library Lawn for a campfire-themed Pajama Storytime! Wear your pajamas and bring a stuffed animal to enjoy our summer tales. This storytime is geared for kids who are ages 0 to 5 years-old.

Storytime tickets are not required for this event. If the weather is not suitable for an outdoor program, the program will be moved indoors. Any location change will be announced on library social media and the event listing will be updated.

Q&A with SciFi/Fantasy Author Martha Wells

We're big fans of her Murderbot Diaries series at the Library, and her latest release is Witch King – “a remarkable story of power and friendship, of trust and betrayal, and of the families we choose.” Whether you’ve been a fan for years or you’re looking for a “new to you” author, join us for this Q&A in which we get all of our burning questions answered.

Learn Something New: Bullet Journaling

Take the leap and learn a new skill – bullet journaling! A bullet journal is a special type of journal meant for to-dos, calendars, quick notes, goals, and so much more. Journals will be provided, but feel free to bring your own blank journal as well. Bullet journaling can be done with any type of journal, but a dotted journal is preferred. For tweens and teens in grades 5-12 only. Limit to first 12 participants.

Dream Power: Exploring Your Dreams
Using Embodied Dreamwork and Creative Writing
|

TUESDAY, July 18 at 7 PM
|
Connect to the power of your own dreams with dream experts and authors Linda Yael Schiller and Tzivia Gover. During this 90-minute program, you will be introduced to integrative creative dreamwork and writing through presentation, discussion, and experiential exercises. You will learn how to remember your dreams, how to use an integrated body/mind approach to help you access your dreams’ wisdom and guidance, how to use dream journaling and writing to help you unlock the power of your dreams, and simple writing prompts to help you uncover the meaning and messages in your dreams! Both Tzvia and Linda are members of the International Association for the Study of Dreams.

Outdoor Visiting Animal Program:
It’s Great to Communicate
|
|
|
|
FRIDAY, July 21 at 11:30 AM
|
Join us at Winthrop Square Park as Matt and some special animal visitors from Animal World Experience teach us the many unique ways that animals communicate with each other, as well as people. You may come to realize that animals really do talk, just a little differently than us. This program will be outdoors at Winthrop Square Park, at St. Paul Street and Freeman Street. We recommend bringing sunscreen, water bottles, and a blanket or something to sit on.
|
If the weather is not suitable for an outdoor program, it will be moved inside to the Coolidge Corner Library program room. Any location change will be announced on Library social media and this event listing will be updated. In the event that this program is moved inside, space will be limited, so free tickets will be required.

|
Word and Image - Word and Image is a curated collection of book and cover design work created by Endpaper Studio. For this exhibit, they are highlighting projects with local ties—projects whose authors, stories, photographers, artists, or publishers have New England roots. Join the artists for a reception on July 27! On display though August 31.

Portraits of Trust Early Learners - This exhibit displays 60 self-portraits by young learners between the ages of 3-5 years old who attend the Martin Trust Partnership in Education for Early Learners (Trust Early Learners). On display though August 28.

Blind and Deaf Communication Throughout History - The Brookline Commission on Disability has put together this display in honor of Disability Pride Month, with assistance from the Perkins Library. On display though July 31.
|
The Library Card Project - These illustrated library cards are by Elissa Martel – a local artist and librarian who grew up in Brookline. The drawings in this exhibit are each based off the card of a different library. On display though August 31.

Embroidery and Lace - Macy Davis is the children’s librarian at the Brookline Village Library and a self-taught crafter. Her embroidery and lace making represent some of her interests such as children’s literature, nature, and connecting to her family history. On display though August 31.

Scrunched: Landscape Abstractions by Jonathan Cheney - Brookline artist Jonathan Cheney creates abstract landscapes of the imagination. Colorful paintings invite your interpretations, but have a common theme: Human activities threaten Earth systems and the biosphere. On display though August 13.
