Disability Pride Month / ADA Celebration

All Current Exhibits  July 8, 2022

The Brookline Public Library, in conjunction with the Town’s ADA Coordinator, and the Brookline Commission on Disability developed this Disability Pride Month display for July 2022. The Brookline Commission on Disability’s mission is to “strive to enhance the quality of life for all persons with any form of disability”. Visit https://brooklinema.gov/bcod to learn more. The Commission’s meetings are open to the public and are typically held on the second Wednesday of the month.

This display highlights media made by and/or about people with disabilities/disabled people. It shows a variety of fiction and nonfiction books and well as some DVDs that center disabled characters. The display also contains a sample communication board and a colorblindness test.

July 26, 2022 will mark the 32nd Anniversary of the American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA). Visit https://www.ada.gov/ to learn more about the ADA or contact Brookline’s ADA Coordinator, Sarah Kaplan, at skaplan@brooklinema.gov or 617-730-2329.

This exhibit is on view in the Emery Case across from the new nonfiction books.
