Joy of Existence

Artist Bio: Brookline resident Svetlana Akimova was born and raised in Riga, Latvia. Her daughter and grandson still live in Latvia. Svetlana attended the Pedagogical School in Riga, and after moving to the United States she studied at the Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics and Massage Therapy in Medford, MA.

In her 60’s, Svetlana overcame her fear of painting on canvas after being encouraged by Nicole Russo de Souza, owner of Skin to Soul studio, where Svetlana currently works as a massage therapist in Woburn. The feeling of and support from her friends, family, and coworkers on a daily basis keeps her inspired to create these beautiful works of art.  All pieces on display are a collection of mixed media works on canvas. Techniques include acrylic paint, acrylic pour, collage, and acrylic markers to create abstract designs.
