American Sign Language Class

Learn the basics of American Sign Language (ASL) with this course taught by DEAF, Inc.! The class will meet for 10 sessions on Thursdays, February 8 – April 11, 6:30-8:30 PM at the Brookline Village Library.

Using the TRUE+WAY ASL curriculum, this course is an introduction to the basic skills in the production and comprehension of American Sign Language. It includes the manual alphabet and numbers. Students will develop conversational ability, culturally appropriate behaviors, and ASL grammar. This course will focus on Unit 1: Welcome to the Deaf World!, Unit 2: Academics, and Unit 3: Family and Relationships.

This class is open to all adults, no prior knowledge of ASL required. The course sessions will build on each other, so please plan to attend all sessions (except in the case of illness or unforeseen circumstances). Students who complete at least eight classes will receive a certificate of completion.

DEAF, Inc. classes are no-voice, so please expect a classroom environment without spoken English. There will be recommended, non-graded homework using the TRUE+WAY ASL e-workbook to reinforce the material covered in class.

Registration is required and will open on Thursday, January 11 at 6:30 PM.
