First Light: Welcome Blanket Craft Kits
The Library is delighted to be participating in the First Light Holiday Celebration 2022! First Light is an annual celebration where businesses and organizations around town host activities and performances to celebrate the winter holiday season.
This year, we’re partnering with Welcome Blanket Brookline to offer Welcome Blanket craft kits. These kits contain supplies and instructions to make crochet squares that will be turned into blankets for immigrants and refugees. You can crochet a square or three, write a note of welcome – Welcome Blanket encourages crafters to share a family story of immigration, migration, or relocation – and bring your creations back to the Library. Then Welcome Blanket Brookline members will turn everyone’s squares into beautiful blankets.
You can grab a kit to-go or get crafting in the Library. Volunteers from Welcome Blanket Brookline will be on hand during the First Light Holiday Celebration (5-8 PM) to teach the basics of crochet and help you get started with your project. This craft is geared towards adults, teens, and tweens and is best for those with some crochet experience. We’ll also have blanket square coloring sheets available for kids.

First Light is coordinated by the Brookline Chamber of Commerce. Visit the Chamber’s website for a full schedule and map of First Light activities.
