Harmony of Korean Drumming with Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago
Join us for a very special performance with the Korean Performing Arts Institute of Chicago (KPAC)! KPAC will be performing the “Harmony of Korean Drumming.” Korean drumming, known as “pungmul” or “nongak,” was designated a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2014. It was once a popular form closely associated with Korea’s agricultural village life. Each instrument represent the earth, heavens, or a sound from nature. When played together, they signify the harmony of nature and the universe.
KPAC’s mission is to preserve, promote, and develop Korean traditional performing arts. KPAC was originally founded in 2013 as a Korean drumming program for Korean American Youth, but has since expanded its programming to include instrumental music. They will be participating in Hallyu! The Korean Wave at the Museum of Fine Arts, and we are fortunate to get to host them at the Coolidge Corner Library while they are visiting from Chicago!
Presented in partnership with the Korean Cultural Society of Boston.
